R.M. left this review using the Directory software: - It's been expanded to 35 hookup spots, the new ones did not have CTV. Not a bad place to stop with a Commissary & Exchange on base. Still a lot of people homesteading from the looks of things. A good laundry rooms, good showers. We spent two nights as we were waiting for tires to come arrive at a shop in Alamogordo (15 miles) and would have no problem coming back.

This FamCamp is very small, although there is adequate land nearby for expansion. It seemed that there were a large number of "homesteaders" (almost 50%) here and at least two Motor Homes (That I saw.) were turned away as all the pull throughs were taken. The place was trashy and poorly maintained - light bulbs out, shower door broken off the men's shower and laying against the wall, trash blowing around, etc. Not what you would expect for the nightly rate. There is a major road construction project on base which keeps you from finding the camp or getting to the gas station. Signage is poor or non existent. I squeezed through the cement blocks only to be told by the gate sentry that I should have used the West gate. A left turn onto Alamogordo was not possible because of road construction. Finding the camp was a real mess. This place needs major work.

The park is small and a bit out of the way to get to. The entrance to the base is being redone and they put in some big concrete blocks either side of each driving lane and they are very close. Close enough to have many scrape marks on each from vehicles bumping into them. The serpentine lanes are narrow and difficult to maneuver. One must go through base housing to get to the park and the roads there are narrow with cars parked on each side of the streets. Apart from that, the BX is acceptable as is the commissary as each is small. The town of Alamogordo is small but has just about everything one would need. The camp host was helpful but didn't really give us much in the way of info about the base or the town. We stayed here two nights passing through, which is our custom. We like to spend two nights each place we stay so we can see what there is to see every place we stop.

I can't honestly speak about the campground itself other than to say that it is somewhat difficult to find once you get on base. What I can speak about is how rude and disrespectful the campground host is. This was my first experience trying to stay at a campground on post....as we just bought our camper about two months ago. As we drove up we saw several spots we thought were open. I found the park manager and told her I was checking in.....she told me in uncertain terms that she didn't have any open spots. I understand that she was full.....however she was completely unprofessional. All I could do was shake my head and walk away....I will not be back.

Well based on others comments I called first and they said they were full and had no idea when a space would come available. I said don't you have a 30 day max stay especially for DOD employees and she said well we reevaluate the needs on a regular basis and they are short housing so alot of people are being able to stay more than 30 days. I appreciate that being applied to active duty IF NO QUARTERS ARE AVAILABLE. but definitely not for DOD employees.

Convenient stopover for travelers passing between 1-40 and 1-10. Small campground with most spaces occupied more or less on a permanent basis (DOD employees and some active duty military personnel. Wifi is iffy at best, and laundry facilities are limited to a couple of washers and dryers in one building and a couple of washers and dryers in another building. The price is a bit high for the limited services offered. Plenty of overflow--nearly unlimited. When the wind gets up, it can get pretty dusty. The interstate highway is across a dirt area from the camp, but I noticed very little noise except for a few big rig trucks. I would consider staying here again. Even though they do not take reservations, I highly recommend calling ahead to see if a full h/u site is available; otherwise, expect to stay in overflow a night or two.

This is our second time at the FamCamp and 4th time at Holloman AFB. The FamCamp is fairly small, but has a vast area for dry camping if one wants to wait for a space to open up. Best feature is weather! Numerous sunny days, some wind in the spring, and little rain. Roughly half the sites are hardstands and covered picnic cables; all have picnic tables. Cable is 'expanded basic', i.e., about 70 channels. Off-sir (antenna) TV, via translators is fair; CBS. ABC and Fox are HD, NBC and a couple locals are still in analog. Wi-Fi fair, but if you have an AllTel or Verizon computer card, its fine. Cell Service excellent. New, although small mens and womens latrine and unisex shower are EXCELLENT. Newer laundry room and check-in day room, open 24/7, excellent as well. Still remaining is older laundry and bathrooms with showers, which are adequate in themselves. Alamogordo is about 7 miles east, very busy, lots of chain stores, fast foods, many new motels, lots of new housing. New Mexico has unusually good roads for a relatively small state, with 4-lane expressways to Las Cruces and interconnection with I-25; 4-lane road to El Paso, TX, and 4-lane roads to Roswell and beyond (100+ miles), and excellent 2-lane and partially 4-laned road to Albuquerque. Excellent value for the $$$: Base is loaded with new facilities - health center, hospital/clinic, BX, Shoppette, Base Housing. Older Commissary, well stocked. Scenery is excellent - big mountain range (Sacramento Mts) to east, desert to north and south, and San Andreas Mts to the west. No reservations, but no limit, either. 1st come, 1st served. $20 a night; $90 a week ($12.85/night) or $300 a month ($10/Night). Clearly a 'hidden gem'...one of the best all-round values in the realm of Military FamCamps!

J.C. left this review using the Directory software: We have two GPS's in our truck, when using the listed coordinates the portable Garmin took us to the permanently closed gate well North of Alamagordo while the built-in GMC GPS took us in the correct direction but tried to take us to a location well West of Holloman AFB. We used "West Gate Rd. Holloman AFB" and the Garmin took us right to the gate. Previous write-up complained about the noise from the highway. We were there in cooler weather so didn't have our windows open but the highway noise was not a big deal (I can't hear anyway but my wife has good ears and didn't complain). The overflow area could easily hold 30 RV's. We would definitely come back.

The FamCamp is a slab of concrete in the back 40 of nowheresville, quiet and isolated with only the sound of Raptors in the sky... but it's one of the better kept FamCamps I've seen anywhere. The host and hostess are warm and friendly and responsive to any request for help and guidance, and they keep the facilities spotless. Well Done!!!

We arrived on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend without a reservation. We felt fortunate that we were able to have a site. The host's trailer was well marked as you enter the Famcamp. The host was very friendly and handed us a brochure about the Famcamp as well as a base map. He pointed out places that might interest us. The bathrooms and laundry room were clean and usable. The only mark down was the new showers built separately from the one in the bathroom. The newer ones are nicer however the wind had warped the middle showers door. For some reason the last shower was locked all three days that we were there, so only one new unisex shower was available. I would definitely return to this FamCamp.

This place is not worthy to bare the "FamCamp"! It is very small and directly off the interstate, very noisy!!! They had tile bathrooms which I discovered only after chasing the roaches to the corners. They would not answer the phone number listed so we were placed in overflow due to the limited number of spaces and what looked like a good number of full time residents, with no hook-ups and super loud semi trailer trucks every minute, all night long!

Good Famcamp to use as a base to see the mts and the desert. White Sands is a must see to check off your bucket list. The down side is all the dog poop in the park. In the week we stayed there we never saw anyone carry a bag to pick up the business. The weekly rate is great.

Very nice FamCamp! We stayed here while exploring the area, came here specifically to tour the Trinity site. The base is upgrading housing, including new roads, so do not believe your GPS. Follow the directions from the previous poster if you have to enter the main gate. Wifi is up most of the time, but it does crash regularly. Nice exchange and commissary, we loved the base library. Overflow parking is generous, level and graveled. During our two weeks here, we saw a lot of turnover, most people only stay overnight. We only saw people in overflow for one night, then they either left or moved into a full hookup site.

If coming from Alamogordo south on Hwy 70, the West gate is the second gate. You can use the West Gate unless you are coming in on a weekend, or after 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. weekdays. Otherwise, you will have to use the Holloman AFB main gate. The directions to the famcamp from the West Gate above are correct. However, if you come in the Main Gate, Martin Ave. is closed and blocked off due to housing construction. Our entry preference was to proceed to Arizona Ave.(3 more streets down), turn left and proceed to Patterson Dr. You will pass the commissary on the right. Turn left on Patterson Dr. until you reach Mesquite Dr. (3 speed bumps) When you reach Mesquite Dr., turn left and continue as per directions above. You avoid driving through housing this way. There are no signs on base pointing the route to the famcamp, which we found a bit odd since most bases display them. We did not find the background highway noise that distracting; the mountain view in the background is beautiful. Camp hosts were friendly and helpful. Laundry room has upgraded machines. The free Wi-Fi works best near the laundry/shower rooms. Will stay again if we come this way.

Prices have increased to $20 per night, $90 per week. The directions need updating. Ongoing construction in base housing has wiped out the first block of Andrews. From Martin take the first left at the end of the construction fence, then the second left onto Boeing. Then right on Andrews, right on Mesquite, and the first left into the rv camp. The host was pleasant, the camp is clean and well maintained. The base is nice with all the usual amenities and facilities, golf course, indoor pool, commissary and BX, etc. White Sands National Monument is only six miles further but has no camping. However $20 per night for a parking space and hookups exceeds the price at New Mexico State Parks and many of the commercial parks in the area I think.

We stayed here on our way to Mexico. Getting to the campground takes a little as the facility in in one of the housing areas which you have to drive through, one wrong turn could be a problem. The campground has pull through and back in sites with full hookups. Each site has a picnic covered table, concrete pad, and is long enough for a 40' motorhome and toad. Services, W/E/S, are located just where they should be for minimum stretching of hoses and cords. Didn't use the showers or laundry facility but did look and found then clean. We were told that the base was expanding the campground with up to 25 more sites. We would definitely stay here again.

Arrived around 1900. Host was put out that I knocked on her door. Way to many homesteading here. Overflow backs onto NM Rt# 70. Very busy, very noisy! No Base information available at campground. There are some real long termers here and as traveling active duty member, I got no support from the host. Highly recommend, DOG CANYON State Park. Beautiful, 12 miles south of town on Rt 54, views to die/kill for and the most beautiful canyon hikes right from your electric steps!! $14 a night.
