T.P. left this review using the Directory software:- Came expecting to stay for a week stayed for 2 and a half. Staff was excellent although the office hours are short. Great base lots of things to do in the area the base is about halfway between Sacramento and San Francisco. The NEX gas station on right side of the road if you are coming from the camp ground is big rig friendly. The one on the left not so much.

I rated this camp high as the price was fair at $17.00 per night. I have been visiting Travis FamCamp for years, yes Toni was VERY obnoxious and it took some time to finally put him in his place. Eventually he left us alone, That said, the new management is doing a good job,I feel pretty bad not remembering the new Mrs.? who is running the office, however, she is very courteous, friendly & seems to have settled into the job well. That said, My only gripe is that I need to return and now on this site, I notice the price has gone up to $20.00 per night, adds up when you need to stay involuntarily for medical reasons and the like. After all, as a 100% disabled Veteran, the government wasn't very generous and my income is limited (Fixed), but it is what it is and I don't imagine I'm alone in feeling this way. So, for anyone planning to visit for the first time, enjoy, the location is as good as it gets, close to everything you will need both on & off base.
July 2012-Oct 2012
We stayed for about 4 months July through October 2012. It is definitely the end of the "Tony and Mary" era...as seen in other reviews they were the worst ever in any MWR camp.. anywhere!! For example, Tony said you could not use the post office unless you stayed 3 weeks; he also demanded you pay just for one week at a time even if you stayed for months...all this and more has been changed now with Karina and Jim (Jim is active, Karina runs the office) and both do a marvelous, gentle and fair camp management style... See the other reviews for facilities on base such as commissary, etc. However no one mentioned the fine library and gym within a short 15 minute walk down the road (.7 mile)...great machines and showers and then you can walk over to the library to peruse the news of the DoD and so on... The camp was well kept, clean and tidy...what was most welcome was the separate areas for travelers with dogs and those without...the separate areas allowed peace and quiet from those little yappers that seem to continually bark for no sane reason on earth.. Electric was out for a day 2-3 times but that was not any different than my brick and mortar home... We traveled in a 32 foot TT from North Trails and fit in most any sites in the tree/lawn area... N.B.-- the weather is Sac area can be a consistent 95 plus F...the a/c sometimes did not shut off for weeks in the day...but the delta breeze at night gave nice relief a lot of evenings... This is a very nice camp. We stayed one month and enjoyed it the whole time. The Commissary / BX complex is right across the street with post office, Starbucks and the usual vendors, shoppette and library a couple blocks down. There is a nice free museum on base. The grounds are very well kept, hosts are friendly and helpful. Very nice showers/restrooms and laundry room all kept sparkling clean. The dog walk area is grassy and quite large, but some pet owners need to be more responsible about cleaning up after their dogs! A few lazy ones are going to ruin it for the rest of us who do pick up after our pets. There are jack rabbits everywhere, and prairie dogs by the dog walk - be prepared to get your arm yanked out of joint if your dog is a chaser. We had no problem getting 4G on a T-mobile wifi hotspot. Cable TV is available, but you must go to Comcast off base a few miles and get a free converter box. Then take it back upon leaving. Bit of a pain but for staying a month or more worth it - except when the Raiders game was blacked out. All in all one of the nicest places we've stayed and with family in the bay area a definite lay-over when snow-birding south.

This was our first stay and certainly will not be our last. The location was perfect for things we wanted to do in area such as visiting SF and missions. Campground, laundry, facilities very clean and staff most helpful and accommodating. We had to alter our reservation twice and no problem. Good dog walking area. Just wish owners were more diligent about cleaning up after their dogs. Rabbits are cute and fun to watch. Commissary etc very convenient. Thanks again to all who made this a nice stay. This is the third time here. A great place to stay. New camp host very nice. Very short walk to shop at the bx & comm. Has a rv & car wash next door to the rv park.
September 2012
Most sites only have 30 amp service. Impossible to find host after 1:00 pm. Power failure hot weather host was nowhere to be found. A guest had to eventually call emergency work orders. Loud exercises for two days and all night. Nice dining hall, retires are welcome. A full time host would relieve a lot of problems.

Impressive! All amenities included ($20), except WiFi. But we carry our own Hotspot. Food, shopping, etc within walking distance. Everything spit and polish clean. Will return.

We found the FamCamp at Travis to be a treat to be at for the month. I had been to Travis only once many years ago, and did not realize all it had to offer. Just an immaculate base, with great amenities. The BX/Commissary complex is fabulous and a short walk from the FamCamp, and the base gym is world-class. The only draw-back of the Famcamp is the lack of free Wifi. That would make it even better, but we had a neighbor with Comcast wifi who shared it with us, and since we are full time bloggers, that was important (Thanks Carl!) Corinna (the Famcamp manager) was VERY pleasant and a treat to deal with (so was her husband Jim). This is a definite return destination for us in the future. BTW - I heard good and bad about the former managers of the Famcamp while I was there, some pining that they kept the place ship-shape, and others complaining they were ogres. I never had the opportunity to meet them, but as far as I am concerned, Corinna and Jim are wonderful hosts!

Only stayed for one night and the "assigned" space had been changed, good thing I checked. The off-side backing is a pain in the butt, just to keep you "tight" to the concrete and not over-hanging the grass on the hook up and slide side... Oh well, didn't see that part in the volume of information taped to the window until I had already set up the trailer and wasn't about to tear it down just to move it for the night. Was told by the neighbor that they were informed very STRONGLY of this requirement… Good thing no one checked. Enjoyed the park, close to everything and a bargain. Only drawback was the standard bugle calls that scared the crap outta the wife… Although we have lived on military bases for 20 years, I guess she forgot… I rather enjoyed hearing them again.

M.S. left this review using the Directory software: - Great visit, used Travis as a homebase to visit Bay area and Napa! Very friendly staff and great accommodations! Sites are level, power is good! Interior roads are paved but need some TLC! Overall excellent experience!

Back for another visit at Travis. The new manager is in place and is doing a great job. She goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is a pleasant one. Grounds, bathrooms and laundry facility are immaculate. Easy on and off the base with any size rig. WiFi is free for the first 24 hours. Our Verizon aircard was up and down during our stay this time and 3/4g service was spotty on base and sometimes nonexistent. We'll be back.
February, 2012
We are just winding up 2 weeks in this great FamCamp. For those who have read the preceding reviews and were put off by the comments about Tony, rest assured, he has moved on and the new manager is a lovely lady who is reviewing the rules. So no worries. We stayed in a site directly opposite the main gate, which is separated by a chain link fence and a row of trees. Upon arriving we thought this would be a bad location - noisy, no privacy, etc., but actually it has been quite entertaining watching the cars and trucks come in and out the gate. We took a day trip to San Francisco and took the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit train system). It was an efficient way to go. We drove to Concord on a Saturday and the parking at the BART station there was free on weekends. Round trip tickets were silly cheap and our tour bus (Dylan's Tours - highly recommend) picked us up only a block or two from the BART on Montgomery. Muir Woods is a must see. Wow, the grandeur and history contained in those coastal redwoods. And the views from Twin Peaks and Sausalito are photo-worthy for sure. The base has a nice commissary and exchange which are VERY conveniently located to the campground, and the self-serve car wash nearby has an RV bay with steps along the side wall so you can reach your roof. Nice. Also make use of the library just a bit farther down Air Base Parkway... they have a nice selection of DVDs you can check out for free. We would definitely stay here again, should we find ourselves once more in this area.
17-30 DEC 11
We came here primarily to visit San Francisco and the surrounding area and the campground served that purpose well. Only downside is you are pretty far outside of San Francisco so if you want to make daily trips it takes some time and planning. The best way is to go to the BART station in Pittsburg or one of the other ones near by, the station is about 40 minutes from the campground, it is a 50 minute train ride to Embarcadero station which is the closest to the waterfront, the trip is $11.90 round trip for an adult. Napa Valley is very close (30 minutes). The campground itself is the simplest to find of any I have ever been to, it is right next to the main gate; go right through the main gate, make your first right and then another right and you are there. The office keeps very limited hours but will leave you information for check in if you miss them. Bring leveling blocks because most of the spots are on a slight hill, spots are spacious and well maintained with nice landscaping and hookups. The campground doesn't have much of a "community" like we have seen at other campgrounds, there are no scheduled activities, central fire pit, day room, etc. all in all though it is very clean and nice; it is certainly worth staying at if you are in the area.

We stayed for two weeks. Yes, Tony parked me and put me right where I should be and no issues with it. A little gruff maybe but friendly and efficient none the less. Both he and Mary were doing a great job even though they had the park roads dug up putting in a water line. We were without water for a few days while contractor hooked up mains but was told before it happened. We should have been given a rebate, but survived. Liked the Jack rabbits around the park. Park is convenient to all the base. We would stay here again. Follow the rules and no problems.
November 2011
Unbelievable. This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review. My parents have been motorhoming for years now. They bring the motorhome this way to visit my family (we live on base) at least twice a year for 6 years now. They did not have a good experience the first few times they visited. We just chalked it up to, "wow, Tony and Mary are two extremely anal people." Tony once told my father not to walk on the grass, because it BENDS THE BLADES! I thought he was joking, until I had the pleasure of dealing with him myself. He is an absolute nightmare; I am in utter shock that these two people are still running this camp! How does this happen? My parents have told me that campground managers are notoriously friendly and helpful and that this is truly the worst place they've ever stayed (over a span of 30 years). Instead of bringing the motorhome and spending a week with my family, they now come for 1 or 2 days and stay at our house, so that they don't have to deal with Tony or Mary. This could really be a nice little campground if 1 of 2 things happened...they get rid of Tony and Mary, or at least reprimand their ridiculous behaviors.

We stayed one night and were put into the "doggie section" since we do have a small dog. That was no problem but they don't even make an attempt to keep the grass watered and green in this section. All the other "non-doggie" sites have nice, green grass. Construction blocked off the dog walk but we were forbidden to walk our dog in the field next to the ball park area or in any area of green grass. We were very leery about visiting this park after reading the reviews on this site of unfriendly camp hosts but the man who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. He offered maps and base information, more than we needed. He even rode his bike down to our site and helped my husband back up the rig when he couldn't contact whoever usually does this. The price was great, $17. Even if we couldn't make a reservation less than 30 days ahead, we were advised a week ahead that they would be able to accommodate us. The BX is very close and has a good food court. The Class Six store had great prices. When we left headed south, we took Hwy. 12 east to I-5 but wouldn't do it again. It is a very busy two lane road and not in all that good of shape. All our clothes hopped off the closet rod from the sudden ups and downs. Next time we'll go through Sacramento and skip staying here.
