My husband says that he pulled me away from Camp Robbins kicking and screaming when we had to go home on business. We loved walking daily by the nearby bay and watching the pelicans and other birds, even dolphins one time. The staff were very, very helpful and caring. The site was large and clean. The whole park was attractive and quiet, and the other campers were friendly. I had a feeling of community. Wish I were there still. Next time. It has been interesting reading some of the previous comments. It seems some folks expect a full-blown private resort and if not, they're going to complain about the grass, about the noise, about the rules and about the sites. Actually, there should be two separate review sections because there are actually two parks. Rules are in place for a reason ... and, actually, it's to make the experience enjoyable for everyone. We are currently at Camp Robbins and have been here for several days. It's a great park with huge sites. Some are back-in and some are pull-thru. The managers (I think they are fairly new) are absolutely fantastic!! They are friendly, out-going and want to do almost anything to please. The park is almost right on the bay with trails leading from the campsites to the beach. Love the park .. love the convenience and love the management. Thank you for a good experience. Satellite is excellent, internet is excellent and we would definitely return if in the area. 21-24 April 20090 of 0 people found the following review helpful
The park needs some work in the cosmetic arena as the sand could be replaced with some grass. When campers leave, the areas aren't cleaned as my site was filled with cigarette butts and paper. I understand that the previous camper should have been responsible but they weren't. There is no cable TV and the antenna signals are very poor even with the digital converter. It cost $20.00 with a 10% discount for club membership. The camp has a 5 mph speed limit yet all seem to drive far too fast, even the police. Almost no control of animals using camper spaces with no clean up. The camp manager isn't very friendly and needs some training in dealing with people. There are some spaces in the area of 1-8 that blocks satellite signals because of the trees. There is one camper parked in a horrible, nasty beat up old Allegro class A that has been there for at least 4 years in one spot or the other. It is a disgrace for any rig of that sort to be allowed to park. It is an accident waiting to happen. April 20090 of 0 people found the following review helpful
My wife and I stayed at Eglin for a week and we enjoyed our stay. Management could spend a little money and sow some grass seed to make the camp ground more attractive. Only thing that bothered me was that after a month you had to move to dry camp for I believe 2 nights and then you could move back in. They did this even though there were empty pad. I asked a couple of campers why they did this and they stated that was the policy. I wrote an E-mail to the base commander and received a reply that that they were making some changes. Only thing I could not open the attachment to see what the changes were. I have replied to the e-mail asking what changes were made. I did observe many Rv's that were there when we arrived and were there when we left at no time did I see any one around some of them. It appears they are using the FamCamp as a storage area as you could tell they had been there for a while. Other than that would go back. John and staff were very friendly. The campground has great possibilities but there is just very little interest in camper hospitality. The manager cut the grass in the middle of the day and it generated a major dust storm through the open camper door. There was no grass only dirt. The speed limit of 5 mph is impractical but regardless there is no enforcement. The managers are very unfriendly and are more concerned with office chit-chat than helping campers.. A bit pricey at $19.00 and no cable. Antenna reception is terrible. Cell phone reception on base for AT&T and Verizon in marginal at best. There are too many local campers with empty rigs. They pay and stay only on weekends. Very poor animal control with barking dogs and no clean up. Nov 15 20083 of 10 people found the following review helpful
I have been to many camps and this by far is by far the worst run camp I ever visited. For starters the camp does not have a camp manager that gives a damn about the people. Camp rules are only enforced when the people in the park complain about the conditions. For example the camp rules state that "...only RV's up to 30 amps will be assigned to this site. NO EXCEPTIONS." What a joke, there are at least two rigs that are using a step down pigtail at Postl Point at this time. There are at least 8 open slots at the Camp Robins camp grounds that have hookups for 50 amp rigs. The Office was informed of this and the person on duty was not aware that they were there, I wonder who signed them in? Did the Staff member correct the situation? NO. If you are a recreational person and want to go to the warm waters and play with your water toys IE boat or pwc or bring a 4 wheeler with you, don't bother going to Eglin because you will NOT be allowed to have them in the camp. You can however pay additional fees to have your recreational toys placed in a unsecure area away from the camp grounds. Never mind that a retired person camping next to you has a cargo trailer stored on his site, and you might have to live next to a "roach coach stand that is being stored on their site that's allowed. God forbid that the camp site look like a rec area. Is Eglin Famcamp following a "selective enforcement" policy? You bet they are. The camp grounds at Postl Point have at least 16 open slots yet if you are a young family and can not afford a class A motor home but want to bring your family out for a vacation do not think you can use one of the sites that have water and electricity, even if your willing to pay the price. You will be made to MOVE OFF the site! What a bunch of BS that is. I thought the "famcamps" were for the active duty people and the management should do everything to make them welcome not turn them away. The camps at Eglin are catering to the "snowbirds" and retired people that will stay in the camp for extended stays. The camp manager even has a Friday cook out that resembles a "meals on wheels". The bathhouse at Postl Point has a shower stall that has been closed for repairs for a very long time, leaving one stall for 22 camp sites. There needs to be a chance in how this base runs it's "rec area", be they run what should be a great place to go into a retirement trailer camp. This was the second time we visited Eglin. Each time we were treated as if we owned the campground. John and Amy were always ready to assist, answer questions or just viait if they had time. Each experience was great. We plan to return. July 27, 20081 of 1 people found the following review helpful
I arrived at Camp Robbins at 1150 hrs on a Sunday. The park was about 70% full. The clerk was pleasant but didn't seem very knowledgeable. I was told I could not go to Postl Point because they had no way to convert the 30 amp outlets to my 50 amp RV. ???? Go figure. The websites and directories I consulted said the price was $15 but I was charged $20. The area was clean. 90% or more of the RVs there had local plates and appeared unoccupied. I saw only five people during my one day stay. It appears the locals are storing their rigs there for weekend or occasional use. That's not a complaint, just an observation. No water view or other scenery. BX and commissary about a 1/2 mile away, maybe less if you want to walk through the pines. Restrooms, showers, laundry and ice machine. Nothing else available on-site. Not a bad place but I wouldn't rate it above so-so. Not a $20 camp as compared to others I have used. April 18 & 19, 20082 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Office staff and sites were fine. Did not use bath house or laundry. It is very close to the commissary and BX. BUT, this location is not for the true recreational traveler. We got the last site at Camp Robbins. Most occupants were "permanent" or "semi-permanent". According to staff they stay for 3 months (may extend an additional 30 days) exit for 48 hours and return for 3 more months as soon as a site is available. The attendants words were, "they rotate in and out." We were there from Friday to Sunday and estimate that half of the sites DID NOT HAVE A LIVING SOUL at them during that time. A lot of units have local license plates and they must leave them there and visit occasionally. We drove through Postal Point campground and it is right on the water. Nice location, no sewer. Many units looked like they were there for a lengthy stay. 4 sites available. They don't accept reservations so it's not really worth the drive hoping you'll get a site. The office attendant was nice enough to tell us by phone what was available and even though we told her that we would be there in an hour she couldn't hold a site. Luckily, there was still one available. We asked about availability November - March and were told they stay full. You could show up, wait in overflow and possibly get a site in 3 or 4 days. They also said that they have 5 or 6 sites with a 3 day maximum stay. We suggested that they designate more sites for the recretational traveler and accept reservations. If planning to stay here, be sure to have Plan B! April 10, 20081 of 1 people found the following review helpful
This was a visit only, not overnight. There are two sections, one pretty bad and the other better. Postl Point is near the Outdoor Recreation office and not very appealing. It looks like it would be quite wet during heavy rain. Camp Robbins would be okay but is not as nice as some of the campgrounds we've stayed in. It is located near the BX/Commissary. The pads are gravel with a concrete patio. Although you can stay there for 6 months (and extend for 30 day increments), I didn't see a lot of garbage piled around and under RVs. There were plenty of available sites at Postl Point and 8 at Camp Robbins. You have to go to Camp Robbins to check in at both areas. Seems to be better looking than last post of 1 year ago. 11-15 April 200710 of 10 people found the following review helpful
Camp Robbins and Postl Point are both very full. As an Active Duty Reservist, I was able to get right in. However, up until I mentioned that fact, they just said "Sorry, we're full, but in two or three days in overflow, we can get you a spot." Not sure, but they probably booted someone out for me. I stayed at Camp Robbins, since I have small kids and need a sewer drop. Nice level sites, easy hookups, and nice roads for kids bikes. It's pretty well maintained. Two of the four washers were broken when I arrived, but were repaired when I left. And much cleaner (thanks to me.) The bathrooms were very clean, but the laundry room needed attention. I mentioned this to the FamCamp staff. They were very friendly and helpful to me, but slightly overwhelmed. I drove through Postl Point. It's nice there if you like to have access to the Marina and the beach. There is not a playground at either FamCamp, but Camp Robbins is only 400 meters walk to the picnic area that is on the bay ... bring your umbrella and sand toys! There is a big park just to the west of the BX/Comissary area, across from the school, about a mile away from Camp Robbins. A very nice jogging trail is along there, about 1.5 miles up to the flightline, for a 3-mile roundtrip isn't bad. Good enough for rollerblades too. The FamCamps on-base are on the bay, but to get off-base to go down to the main beaches, it is a 20-30 minute drive. As for full-timers "living" at the FamCamps, I agree with other reviewers that it appears many are abusing the FamCamp privilage, and living there instead of using it as intended, a recreational facility. Very frustrating to see. March 20077 of 7 people found the following review helpful
Camp Robbins stays full, often with long-term users, but most days there was one or two available spots. Nice pads/hook-ups/roads. Near exchange/commissary/water. Easy access. Come and go through east gate near Niceville. We will do this again. 19 Dec 200627 of 32 people found the following review helpful
Could not get in initially due to HIGH number of people that are actually living in the MWR facility. Finaly got into postl point, I spent 8 years here active duty and I am recent retiree (2002) and been coming here for the past 5 years - this place is a trailer park trash convention. They even have a fifth wheel with a huge blue tarp over it here on the first spot you see - Class - EEEEE !!! Worse yet, you complaint that there are active duty with kids living in their trailer along with a host of active duty as well as contractors and many many friends of the services community and all they do is drag their feet and act like you are the problem. There are at least three units at postl point where people have parked their unit there and use it for a weekend condo. One hasn't stayed in his unit overnight once and we have been here almost three weeks !! When I brought this to their attention, within an hour two had brought cars down to the spot and then left so they would look like they were actually using the facility when they ARE NOT EVEN HERE DURING THE WEEK. This is the worst military famcamp we have ever been in. The view is awesome and so is camp robbins if you can get them to ever through out those scamming the system making it so that you and I cannot use our well earned benefit. Sad, this camp used to be the premiere facility, now it seems like either half the fulltimers/illegal homesteaders work for, worked for or know all the famcamp services people . . tonight there was a guy working on a crappy old POS car on a car trailer parked next to his fifth wheel, along with two ful size trucks . . . and there is only one person staying there . . .you do the math. I am filing complaints as far as I can get the paper. I am constantly amazed at how low people can be - if any of those abusing the system or those running this place knew what it is like to drive 1k - 1.5k miles only to see you cannot get a spot because they are weekend condo-ing the place and there are like 10 people living here as their residence while claiming this state as their primary residence . . . well, if it happens to THEM, then its different. This is the first time I have ever been ashamed of an Air Force Base in 25 years. Not coming back here to stay but will be checking it every year and complaining to ensure all get equal access. Check in for both campgrounds is now at Camp Robbins Campground. You can no longer check in to Postal Point Campground at Outdoor Recreation so do not follow the 7th Street/Flagler directions until you have gone to Robbins and checked in. 50 amp rigs are NOT allowed at Postal Point even with an adapter. Attendant says the CG is so old the breakers cannot handle 50 amp rigs. ONLY straight 30 amp rigs are allowed at Postal Point. Internet connection available free at Base Library. Excellent campgrounds, both beautiful with spacious sites. Camp Robbins is completely full of snowbirds who have a 90 day stay but 30 amp rigs can get into Postal Point, which has no sewer hookups but a beautiful view of the bay. Dump station available. Waiting time for Camp Robbins is estimated at "several weeks." Overflow dry camping also available. Excellent facilities on base. Nov 20067 of 9 people found the following review helpful
Very nice facilities, very helpful, personable staff. Postal Point is used for 30 A units and overflow when Camp Robbins is full. Sep 20064 of 5 people found the following review helpful
There are 2 FAMCAMPs (Camp Robbins & Postl Point) on Eglin AFB proper. They are both operated by the same office with very nice staff. This review is for Postl Point. Postl Point is the older CG in a spectacular location with water view everywhere. Great fishing from the shore. Sites have CATV, water and 30 amp (50 amp rigs are not permitted at Postl Point, even with adaptors). There are 20 sites, lots of grass and gravel at the parking site. BBQ grills on each site. Campfires not permitted. Reservations are not accepted...check in with the FAMCAP office at the Camp Robbins facility near the PX/Commissary. There are bathrooms with showers and a laundry facility. There is a dump station. Propane is available at the marina near the entrance of the CG. The CG is at sea level so a storm can cause evacuation. Not many trees so satellite will work fine. Pets are fine with the usual rules. The CG is next to a beach on the Bay operated by Outdoor Recreation. We would give it a 5 for views and a 3-4 for hookups. |
