Visited area during the BP oil spill 4th July weekend. We didn't have a reservation but they had space. The trees are low so watch your rubber roof and air conditioners. The pads need some leveling especially the ones on the back of the park. A few homesteaders still there. Great spot when you want to visit the local casinos and see the sights. The park could use a little cleaning and work on the hookups. They were repairing and/or installing the CATV but ours worked. I will return on our return west. As mentioned by others, this is a homestead campground; it is definitely not a FAMCAMP. Really seems that the Air Force has more problems of this type than any service. Some get cleaned out every so often, other never, and some clean house for a while and then go back to the same old ways. Office has a big board with all sites listed. Just take a look, we're here in March 2010 and several on board show check in early 2009 months; that is surely not a 6 month stay on one of the 42 Long Stay sites! Also, every site is filled right now, dry camping only and yet when I was at the office this AM one of the long stay campers came in to extend stay and no questions were asked by the staff, just make the added payment and all set. This situation really stinks and should be corrected. Maybe if enough of us "travelers" give such reviews someone at Keesler AFB will take note and make corrections. Not much in amenities also, no internet, no TV, etc. Bottom line - great for homesteaders, not what FAMCAMP should be. February 20101 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Spent a night here to check out the area. Nice RV Park. We got lucky, as we didn't have a reservation and there were a few sites still available. The entrance road is narrow and has low trees - be careful. The RV Park isn't behind any security gates, so there's no hassles and less security. Biggest downside here is no Internet access. Nice park, stayed 4 nights and had to sit in overflow as the park is full of homesteaders. Many have been here for the three years we have been camping on our way to and from Florida. Keesler AFB needs to put a limit on how long folks can stay and force the squatters to move on. Camp host are outstanding and do all they can with what they have to work with. Camp grounds are well kept and the facilities are clean. Not a bad place to stop and rest. December 3, 20091 of 1 people found the following review helpful
We arrived late afternoon without a reservation. Host said they only had overflow available. In this case, overflow meant pulling up next to another camp site and hooking into their electric/water. The electric box had both 50 and 30 amp connections. The other guy had the 50 and we got the 30, which was fine, since our power demands are small. The water had two separate spigots on a tee. Our spot was a short walk to the bath house, which was clean and adequate, and the doors were secured with cypher locks. The charge for w/e hookup was $10/night...recently raised from $8...about right for our requirements, and we were pleased to get a spot at all because the place was really full. Last time we were here was about a year after the last big hurricane, and the whole coast looked like a war zone. Now things look normal again in the neighborhood...the c/g is in great shape, and the adjacent family housing is all brand new. Highway 90, from Biloxi to Gulfport is all newly paved and free of construction. But the host says it's still best to come to the c/g via Pops Ferry Road. We only stayed one night on our way west. Probably stay again on the way back to Florida. For Sprint air card users, internet connection was OK, but NOT 3G EVDO speeds. July 20093 of 4 people found the following review helpful
Nice off base park. Clean and comfortable. Don't walk between RV sites here. Didn't realize that was a big no-no at this park. June 27-30, 20092 of 2 people found the following review helpful
Writing this as we are still at Keesler AFB FamCamp, this is not our first stay here and certainly won't be our last. The campground has been upgraded since our last stay and is pretty nice. The only drawback is the lack of grounds upkeep. Grass is not being watered and fire ants and sticker burrs are everywhere! We have a pet and walking him around the area is done while trying to avoid the sticker burrs and fire ants. Office personnel are very helpful and very friendly and go out of their way to make sure you have a nice stay here. March 20090 of 0 people found the following review helpful
We spent one night only. Got in late the host was very accommodating even though they had no open sites helped us park on the grass and we spent the night and was on our way. Next time we'll make a reservation and plan to stay a while. March 25 20091 of 1 people found the following review helpful
The first thing I will say this park is operated by some of the friendliest camp host around. I called early in the morning for 2 spots and they save them for us. The bad things are the streets getting to the park and that the new area doesn't have any cable, also some of the people need to clean up their spot because they can stay long term. Little pricey but I think the whole Fam-Camp program has raised there rates. In some cases it's OK but in some they need to reduce them. The Hostess was very nice and helpful, However whoever is in charge is apparently not familiar with RV Parks. We were in site 52 with someone in "overflow" next to us in 52A. We had to maneuver to avoid their awning which extended to the paved patio so our slides would not extend without contacting. We shared the electric box (they were in a camping trailer and used the 30 amp while we used the 50 amp), we shared the water, however the occupant told us that in order to use the sewer at the site they had to pay a $5.00 charge! (Anyone had to pay to dump anywhere if you paid for a site?) Cable is not available at that site, although is at the other sites. Overall we paid the same $20 as the other full hookups, but shared the site and did not have cable. I feel this is out of line with other FamCamps and the additional charge for Sewer is outrageous. Getting to the park is a challenge and would recommend caution to avoid hitting road signs while avoiding oncoming traffic, once you leave Jim Money drive. Should be one way or widened but it is off base so that isn't going to happen. US 90 is completed so directions do not need to include the detour. This was our first experience as RV'ers at a military park. The host was very nice and escorted us to our spot. We didn't have a reservation and did not call ahead, but we were treated like old friends. The facilities were very clean and the showers had plenty of hot water. The only thing that was a problem was the detour on I-110 getting into the park. There should be some warning about the construction on US-90 and the fact that west bound traffic from I-10 can't go west on US 90 to get to the camp. We had to do a little creative navigating to get around the detour and fortunately we were able to turn around before we got into a bad situation. Despite this minor irritation, we would highly recommend this campground and will stay there again. 27-29 Oct 20085 of 5 people found the following review helpful
We called the morning of our planned arrival like other raters suggested. Joe held a spot for us until 1400. When we arr'ed he asked me if we'd take a overflow spot since he had 2 calls from larger motorhomes coming in that morning also. The overflow spot was right beside the office, 30A/W hook up and easier to get into than the close paved spots in the mail park, so I took it. Cost was half- $10 per night. It was very pleasant, and no problem at all. Bathhouse/showers/laundry all are very clean & kept up nicely. Friendly staff and I piggy backed free wi-fi from the new housing area next door. So we're happy. No Keesler AFB remains from our tour here back in the 70's, but base is rebuilding fine. The tempo BX & Commissary are adequate for us. Base Library next dor to the commissary has internet. Web-site directions off of I-10 were correct. Watch Pass Rd. However. It is very narrow and turns are VERY tight. We stayed at the Keesler AFB FamCamp on May 8, 2008. This FamCamp is small and they will hold a space for you if you call early on the day of your arrival. They charged us for a full hookup ($20) because they didn't have enough customers for the full hookups--even though we only needed a partial hookup ($14) and partial hookups were available. Thus the price was higher than the far nicer FamCamps at McChord AFB ($10) and Nellis AFB ($14) and equivalent FamCamp at NAS Fallon in Nevada. They do not take reservations but they held a site for me when I called in the morning of our arrival. Camp host very friendly and professional. The pictures on this website do not do the campground justice. It is clean and well laid out. The concrete pads are level. Getting through the traffic to the campground was a little hectic but this is not the fault of Keesler. The beach is still being rebuilt from Katrina. The casinos appear to be fully operational but little else on the gulf. A lot of construction is going on base as well. I thought the price was a little high but not that unreasonable. We enjoyed our stay. April 20081 of 1 people found the following review helpful
P.M. left this review using the Directory software: We stayed here for three weeks in April, 2008. We thought the place was just wonderful.. The campground host by the name of Millie is so capable and helpful.. it is very quiet.. except for the train which you get used to!! It is very clean and comfortable...we cannot wait to go back there! September 12 -17, 20072 of 2 people found the following review helpful
We had reservations at a privately owned park in Ocean Springs but cancelled them when we arrived and took a look at it. Very tight and junky. Called Keesler Famcamp and was told they had overflow available with water and electric. The site was on grass between two regular sites. There were two other units in overflow and I just figured that you go on a list and get the next available full hookup site. Not! The following morning the hostess told me its first come, first serve but you have to be physically on site in order to move to a full hookup site. I asked her if that meant that I would have to sit at the campground for 5 days and not go anywhere in order to be moved and she said "Yes". That is the only reason that I rated hospitality so low. Anyway, at about 9:00 a.m. I noticed a motorhome across from me moving and I quickly hooked up and moved and received no flak. Didn't seem a good system to me. Other than that and a couple of junky sites (motorhome with about a ton of boxes piled up outside and a travel trailer on cememt blocks)the campground was OK. If in the area we would try to get back into this Famcamp. Mar 30 - Apr 2, 20081 of 1 people found the following review helpful

Currently camped in the park. Relative to the surroundings post-Katrina, this park is in remarkably great shape. I called early (0715) the morning of arrival and the only site being vacated that day was held for me. Joe and Millie are very customer oriented. KAFB is a 10-minute drive. Bathroom/shower facilities are small and old but Clean. They allow you to wash your rig here! I'll come back. NOTE: Starting April 1, 2008, daily rates for full sites go from $15/night to $20/night. We must live right, drove in and got a site for our 45' RV, WOW in the middle of March! Hosts super in every way and very helpful with any questions we had about the area. The new housing area is just gorgeous and can be seen from the RV park with a solid wall in between. When you drive down Jim Money Road now go a little further after you see the housing area and turn right on Atkinson Road the FAMCAMP is on the right, you cannot miss it. The new commissary will be done summer of 09' and the BX will be a 2 story building to be done in about 2 years. If you were here pre-Katrina and have not been back yet be prepared for a humbling experience. Drive along US90 and see the empty foundations and the remains of homes that are empty and falling apart. There is no gas station open yet on US90 and very few restaurants have reopened. There are some new department stores and strip malls and hotels but it sure was surprising after almost 3 years to see how much must still be done. Being from Florida it sure made us realize what we could be faced with if we took a CAT 3 or more on the West Coast. Still love coming to Keesler and we are so pleased to see the progress on the base, will come again. Feb. 1, 20082 of 2 people found the following review helpful
CG was full but host went out of their way to make a spot for us behind bathrooms. New base housing has taken the overflow area. 3rd day a full hookup site became avalible but we chose to stay where we were and let someone else have it. CG is very clean and host very helpful. 5 to 10 minutes from beach, Keesler AFB, and casinos and a park in walking distance. Campground is very quiet at night except for the trains but you get use to them. We were very happy with our stay and will return if in the area. Verizon computer card and cell service great. |
