Like other reviews this is a great location to visit D.C. Staff friendly and helpful. This could be a great camp grounds with a little work. A few gravels and maybe someone mow the grass a few times a month. Was able to use wifi outside of the camper didn't have to go to the office. Anyone wanting to visit D.C. this is a great place to stay for the money.

I saw the other reviews and had mixed feelings about being here. But after getting here I feel that some of the problems voiced might be a tad harsh. The site I had was exactly what I was given to understand by the Host, a nice basic hook-up, electric only. There was obvious damage to the connection by previous campers (if you pull away from your site with the electric shore tie hooked up, you may want to consider using motels). But the staff was doing all they could to repair damages and keep the park running. The new pads may be close, but I have been in parks where these would be considered "spacious". Please remember, the costs are low for the area. The staff went above and beyond assisting me at every turn. Knowing that I have a disability, one even volunteered to take my wife and I to the Base Facilities, returning to pick us up after shopping. Will I return, there is no doubt.

We had a very pleasant stay for two weeks. Each day some of the campers threw trash and bottles around but these were cleaned up quickly. Trash seemed to be the fault of campers not the staff. They had free wifi at the office and laundry. The metro station was about 4 miles away and made getting to the sites in DC very easy. I will go back to this campground.

They have just put in six new pads! The only problem, they are so close that anyone with a awning or slideout will be on their neighbors spot. They need to rethink the whole process. Looks like an engineer that has never camped designed the layout. We spent 9 days there, the area is very historic, but, the traffic and attitude of the locals were so poor that I would rather be anywhere else. Maybe the campground upgrades will help the campers attitude of people visiting. Base has a very nice exchange and commissary, well stocked. Security forces personnel were very nice (had to check my weapon into the armory), escorted us to the armory and then provided directions to the campground. Won't go back, but, it has nothing to do with the campground.

If they put concrete pads in like it looks like they are doing and concrete the areas around the pads, this will be an outstanding RV park. It rained for one of the days we were there which made it a little muddy. The camp host was very helpful in providing us a last minute reservation and the help she provided during our stay. Would be nice if they had cable RV hook-ups. Being just outside of DC, this is a great value for the money.

After reading the other reviews we were a bit nervous about this campground. We were met by a very helpful Camp Host. She explained she was there during the day and closed the office at 1630. We are staying on lot 9 and hook up was easy. The park is quite clean and well maintained, comparing it to several we had paid a high price for. The boys found the bathroom adequate and had no problem with washing clothes. The water was clear. Talked to one of the permanent Camp Hosts and he explained the problem with the water at times. They have to flush the lines regularly since they are at the end of the line. They are in process of putting cement pads and 5 of them are almost completed. Our trailer is on one of the graveled sites but we just had to wear shoes. We did find the Metro a bit of a challenge. Husband is handicapped and uses a electric scooter. The elevators not working at several stations made our trip quite interesting. Would we come back? Definitely.

Ditto the last review. We arrived on a Saturday, got our site assignment envelope from the board, proceeded to the assigned site to find it occupied. Went to 2 host sites, no one available. Found an emergency phone number at host site, called and they said they would be back in 20 minutes. So we sat in our RV waiting. While waiting another guest arrived and found his assigned site occupied. Host arrived, opened office, and was able to find a open site. Stayed there 8 nights, Office closed Sat&Sun,hours Mon&Tues 8-1, W,T,F, 8-4. Host were never around when office was closed. FamCamp map shows 3 host sites. I saw them cleaning the showers one time, I wonder what their job description is? This is the 21st AF FamCamp We have visited, along with many other Army and Navy RV parks, the has to be one of the lowest rated.

If you are hoping this FAMCAMP is like other Air Force facilities you will be sorely disappointed with the condition of the park but elated with the closeness to all the major attractions that Washington DC offers. FACILITIES: There are no full time office personnel and no posting of hours of operation. The Campground Hosts were not available - both were gone. The road is very rough with lots of pot holes and some sites were very difficult to get to with a large motorhome. Electrical hook ups though adequate looked sad all catiwampus. Pads are sparsely covered with gravel and anything off of the pad is muddy after a rain. A drive around the base reveals very upper tier facilities mostly new, very nice housing area, office buildings, BX and Commissary. Too bad they couldn't spend just a little on a revenue generating camping area.

We enjoyed being near family and friends with a very affordable, usually quiet, beautiful FAMCAMP. Even though we were in the middle of the golf course and close to an exterior highway that had a hole in it, that every time a truck hit the hole it sounded as if someone had dropped a dumpster. But other than that one annoyance we didn't get hit with any golf balls, or bothered by golfers. We were visiting family and Washington DC. I couldn't find any problems with the area and all the other campers were friendly and courteous. The campground was well maintained and located near a gate with access off base. I thank the US Air Force for providing such great place for visitors.

An excellent location for visiting the DC area. Used the Metro from the Branch Avenue station every day; a little tight for parking a truck, but no problems. Internet is available somewhere on base, but it sure would be nice to have it in the campground, thus my lower rating for Facilities. Gave them a lower rating on hospitality, because of the reservation system. They did work to get me four nights there, but told me I had to move after two. I don't understand why I need to move to an open site so someone can take the site I just vacated. Many people staying in the campground were puzzled by this also. I think a small investment in some scheduling software would help as the system is manual now and that seems to be the reason for making people move. After waiting till 11:00 (checkout time) and the site I was supposed to be going to was still showing no sign of moving, I complained at the office. They asked if I wanted to go to a different site. I said I wanted to stay where I was. "Okay, someone just canceled so you can stay where you are." Kind of spoiled our whole morning plans. I'll come back here again, but make reservations weeks in advance no matter what time of the year.

We spent a week here and found the location to be excellent for day trips into Washington DC which was the main purpose of our visit. Overall AAFB is convenient and we'd stay here again if visiting D.C. We used the Metro everyday without incident. The office can answer questions on where to catch the train. GREAT transportation option! The office staff is helpful and efficient but not overly friendly. Sometimes it was hard to find anyone. There were issues with sewer overflow in the Men's Showers plus a water pipe broke resulting in no water for a time. It was repaired rather quickly. There is a sign in the laundry room that the water MAY discolor your clothes. Yep ... it did but it's nothing bleach can't remove at another laundromat. The roads inside the FamCamp really need attention. We laughed at the "speed bump" signs because there are enough potholes to slow everyone done.

We spent 14 days here 5-19 May 2009. We were assigned site # 1 which according to the bulletin board is the Campground Host spot. During our stay we had a number of visitors looking for info and help due to the fact that no one was in the office. It had rain for a number of days prior to our arrival and our site was a major mud puddle with lots of standing water. A number of the site had cut drainage ditches through the roads to get some drainage from there sites. There are a number of permanent or semi- permanent residents living in the park. Twice during our stay the water was shut off without warning for repair, when it was turn back on it ran mud for a number of minute until it cleared which caused our water filter to clog. For two days over a weekend a tent was set up in the recreation room with an individual sleeping in it to get out of the rain. Lot of traffics noises. As mention in other postings the price and location can’t be beat. Even with our troubles we would return.

This was our first time here. We camped in a motorhome. I agree the park could use some upgrading (ie, road grading as well as leveling sites. Standing water in places. Actually, it's rustic considering where it's at. No host there now but he,(Steve) may return. The MWR employee that is running the camp was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. It is by far the closest RV park to the DC area ("The Mall"). Metro was great, about 4 miles away. Didn't have to use the car in town at all. The park has it's short comings but you can't beat the price and the location, location, location. Would definitely return if visiting DC in the future.

My Wife and I came to DC for the first time, and this was the perfect place to stay, for the week. It was near to Metrorail that we used, once we got the hang of it, very easy to get around. The facilities were clean, Roads gravel and good. The office not open very much, but most folks are out sightseeing. Great place to stay for the money, and of course security. Near a gate, so access was easy. Full hook-up. Would stay again, given the chance. Being on a base, amenities were not needed, as they have golf for those who like that, a club on base I think, library, etc. When I did go in the office, the help was very friendly, and helpful.

Visited Washington for a few days while camped here. The price is great and the operator went out of her way to help us with directions. Close to the METRO is a big help. The site was o.k. but the big negative is the stones. When you plan to go to Washington or use the METRO the manager has some leftover passes for parking. We left ours at the office since we do not plan on being back in the areas for a long time. The card cost $5.00 when you purchase and can only be used on the system. Maybe some other campers can enjoy. Would go back again!

We just spent two weeks (during the summer two weeks is all you can reserve) at Andrews and found it very easy to get into Washington, DC to tour (about 15 miles). It is only 30 AMP but that didn't bother us. The host was very nice and helpful but is only there two hours/day. Laundry was clean and in good repair. There is a huge rec. room for playing pool, big screen TV, and cards. Also a smaller TV room with books, puzzles, magazines to trade. I do feel that some energy could be put into the sites as they are not well tended (watch the poison ivy) and a little maintenance could go a long way. However, it is a great place to go to play golf (I was told there are three courses) and biking is easy.

I agree with ALL the other comments! It's nice for its solitude, the cleanliness of the bath house and other facilities, and its close proximity to D.C. and the Metro line. It's not so nice because most sites are uneven, all are graveled (not well), the CG roads are dirt/gravel (chunky and rough) and the electric only section is full of old, moldy campers. Because of the low rate (thankfully) I would stay here again, because the positives more then outweigh the negatives. There is recycling here, a good commissary with many organics, a dog-potty area with baggies provided, and plenty of trees for shade and solitude. There are no playground facilities near, and no place for kids to ride bikes/scooters, though. We kept busy visiting the area anyway, so it worked out.

This is our second time here at the Fam-Camp and it hasn't changed in 8 years. The sites are in poor condition (gravel & deep ruts) water stands in & in front of the sites when rainning. Poor 30 Amp power, I had to use my gen set for a time. Some of the rv units have been here way to long and need to be moving on. I think some RV's are left here connected to elect while the owners go oversea on a hop or they use it for storage. The staff is Great and the people wonderful to visit with. Only 2 washers and dryers but works out OK with some planning. One would think that this Fam Camp would be the best in the system, since they have a 54 hole golf course. Can't tell me that MWR can't see the benefits of up grading the RV sites. The great thing is it's close to downtown DC.
