Here at Blue Angle recreation center Pensacola. The site next to me have been here for 11 months and thay have a house in Pensacola. You might see them every 2 or 3 weeks for a day or two. Numerous campers were turned away this winter because of this type of people. The board shows only when they paid last so it looks like they have only been here for less than 30 days. Several other sites are occupied by the same. Hopefully they will go to a reservation system here and it might stop this practice.

Nothing is going to change until they rotate these homesteading hosts out every so often and bring in new ones. That way people don't have the time to become buddies with the host. And believe me, these people get to a campground and see how fast they can suck up to the people running it so they can say what nice people they are and how well they treat people. Keesler is a no reservation Famcamp. Last year I stayed a week there. About 1/2 hour out I called for available and was told they were full but could put me in overflow with electric and water. When I got to the campground there were two sites open and the host still tried to put me in overflow. I held my ground and ended with a full hookup site. Now, who was she saving these sites for? It's a no reservation, first come campground. While I was there I counted 8 sites that appeared to have been occupied for a long time with 2 trailers on cement blocks.

I guess if someone with plenty of money wanted to purchase and leave empty as many camping spa es as they were allowed to it would inconvenience someone. But a bigger question to me is why do military bases not make a bit more land available for us to rent cheaply.. If we pay for the utilities, spend money on base and sometimes even volunteer on base the base benefits. Just by supporting the famcamp we support the base in my opi ion. Also, if you retire after serving and you are 100% service connected disabled vets, it seems that free camping should be allowed, or at least half off discounts like the state of FL offers and the national parks.

When we first bought a motor home we were still working. We took it every weekend to a state beach just for the day and enjoyed expensive beach front "property" living for the day. It was great! It seems to me that the hosts and employees that allow someone to use the base famcamps this way are perhaps perpetrating a fraud. If there is room and it is not against rules, let them stay there as long as they keep it neat, otherwise this is wrong. If MacDill allows snowbirds to stay the winter why do all bases not make this available? Military people need to tell someone what they want, and retirees have the largest numbers so they might get heard.

Went to Camp Blanding this weekend. Saw 4 RV's with no one there all 3 days.And it was full. When it is slow season I don't see a problem. But not when people are being turned away...

My mother-in-law passed away in CA in 2004. We had two dear cats and no one to stay with in CA and we needed to attend her funeral and deal with nadty family business so we did mot know jow long we would be in CA. We did not want to leave our cats not knowing how long. The unwillingness for motels to rent to people with pets and the packed RV parks caused us to drive to Pt. Mugu hoping to find a place to park there. There was nothing. We slept beside the road and changed into funeral clothing at a rest stop. It was horrendous. Why do bases not permit people to park RV's on base, hookups or none? If your famcamp neighbor has a family emergency like this why expect them to leave the base? I think this should be dealt with at each base rather than here. For someone in a management position to treat us as human beings would be a huge help to all concerned. As we age we have things come up. If there were adequate resources we would probably not complain, would we?
