TOPIC: Why so many Canadian plates at our Military Camps

Re: Why so many Canadian plates at our Military Camps 1 year, 3 months ago #9417

The "Ticker" reads at this time 402 guests & 2 members online...There are many who not only read, but do post...not all the time, maybe, but when they have something to add to the conversation....HOMESTEADING IS A TOUCHY & HOT SUBJECT here, but because of it, many places we visit have changed things some....MWRs, (some, not all) do read this site (hence, they maybe among the "Guests" listed).....I know they do here at Ft. Stewart/Hunter AAF...Sigbee...Corpus Christi....and a few others....who have commented in the past....

Yes, since we travel the I-95 N & S, we also would like to know where our "Northern Neighbors" are in such great numbers.. as in 8 years, we've only seen a couple....and welcome them when we see them....like anyone else who serves their country....hoping that we, as a group, are also welcomed when we go north of the boarder to visit in their campgrounds...

Just my 2 cents....

jcoyrochny,
I was the first to jump in on this conversation 1 wk and 3 days ago asking where you seen this at, and to this time you haven't answered where it was at. That leads me to believe that you can't answer it. I'm trying to be nice here but we would like to know where you seen this at???

Where are you seeing this at? I have never seen it before. I stay mostly in the SW and have never seen it.

I cannot stop to wonder when I cannot get a place to stay at a campground and take a walk around the park and find approximately 25-35% of the places are taken up by plates from Canada - are there that many US retirees living in Canada - what is going on, are IDs being checked at all campgrounds?

Sat - 1-28-2012 there are (2) two campers here at Destin Army Recreational Center in Florida with Canadian plates. We know for sure that (1) camper is retired Canadian military - the other camper we are not sure of - maybe he is here with someone else. We do not know for sure. Just to let you all know. This is the 1st time we have seen Canadians in military camps.

Well, excuse me there John, I thought I was in a forum where people respect each other instead of name calling - I guess I should have sent pictures and license plate numers. Do the others that have spotted plates also get to the firing squad?

John,

Welcome to the forum. Sorry you were offended by the questions raised by members of the forum.

But rather than accuse them of "name calling" and requiring you to send "pictures and license numbers", why not just answer the question and tell us where you observed all these Canadians?

Hi a retired Canadian Military Member, 37yrs + here and first post on the forum. My wife and I were planning on staying in some of your base campgrounds this coming June along the eastern seaboard while touring Civil War Battle fields. After reading some of the post on the forum I am not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling. It appears some resent Canadian military serving or retire and outsiders taking camp sites. I think we will change our plans and start looking at commercial/Good Sam campgrounds.
For those of you wondering about Canadian Bases with campgrounds, I only know of one, here in Petawawa On., Black Bear Campground. All are welcomed. www.cg.cfpsa.ca/cg-pc/Petawawa/EN/Facili...kBearCampground.aspx

Don't read to much Into It!!!! It's a love hate relationship!! Retires don't like active duty staying In the campground, and vice versa!!! Its a constant fight over who can stay and for how long!!!!

If your really thinking about It I would start booking now!!

EME411 - Many U.S. military campgrounds do not in fact allow non-U.S. folks on base (note I did not say anything about the FamCamp) however, some do. I would suggest that if you plan to be in the area of a U.S. base that you call ahead to that base and ask for Security (base telephone numbers are listed for each base found under the Recreation Facility tab above). They will be able to tell you if you will be allowed on base. If so, then you might also try the campground to ensure they will also allow you in. BTW, several years ago we spent three and a half months in your beautiful country. Along the way, we likewise planned to spend some time in a Canadian forces campground. At the time (2005) I believe there were four CGs that allowed U.S. military usage. As it turned out, due to route and timing, we never did stop at one, but it’s nice of you to provide the resource here, should we return ‘up north’.

Also, please take much of what bigredtruck posts here with a grain of salt; I don’t think I have ever seen a positive post from him.

As far as I am concerned, any Canadian forces active or retired are welcome in our sites also. We hope you do come and use them if it is authorized at the campground.

Personally, we'd always welcome Canadian retired or AD at our campfire.

But, I think the OP was about one campground where he saw 35% of the sites with Canadian plates, so we wonder where that specific MCG is ... and we have no response as yet.

Far as EME411, if you're around any MCG where we are ... please stop and introduce yourself ... and don't stay away because of one or two negatives.

I don't have any problem with Canadian military folks staying in U.S. military campgrounds. I've stayed in theirs and was made to feel at home. After all they are our neighbors, about 10 miles away from where I live. Be nice to your neighbors.

I forgot to mention that I've staying at military campgrounds for about 20 years and have never seen a Canadian tag ever. I think some people see things they don't see.

Some vets have retired to Canada, but I understand what you see because they hog all the sites of most CGs from S.C. to Florida

Far as I'm concerned, Canadian military, or even Canadian citizens are welcome at my fire.

But, if I found one that had 35-50% full, I'd wonder why, and ask about it. Could be a joint operation with us for a week, who knows.

And I'd not like to see it that percent, as we need the sites too. But, we would certainly appreciate sharing a few evenings here or in Canada ...

We're heading out across country in a few weeks, and we'll watch for that, and report back. As much as we've been in MCGs tho', I'm betting we only see a few, and to me those few are welcome.

You may or may not believe this. About 5 years ago my neighbors at Oak Grove Park on NAS Pensacola was from the Netherlands! The man was temporarily stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama and had his family with him. When the lady said they were from Holland, at first I thought she was talking about Holland, Michigan. I think I said this before but will say it again. I've stayed in Canadian military campgrounds, not lately but several years ago. I have no problem with Canadians staying in ours if they are authorized. I live on the border with Canada and see Canadians in the USA almost every time I go some where.
