This was a park with lots of goods, but also some detractors that made the ratings difficult. Location: Definitely a little out of the way, and the gates allowing RV entry make it even more out there. Also, a bit of distance from base facilities for those wanting to walk (1.3 miles to BX area). The location is also an advantage in that it is nice and quiet. Clean/Hosp: We were there during the first big storm of the year, but they still kept places cleaned up. Park staff was very nice, host a little put-off-ish. Amen/Fac: Park has 2 buildings in center of park, one a little older than the other. The pull through sites have a picnic table and BBQ box with small concrete pad off of asphalt RV pad. The back-in sites a little narrow but on asphalt that is fairly level. 2 lounge areas, 1 with satellite TV, 2 laundry and 2 restroom areas (2 showers each). Full hook-up with some cable TV. Lots of base facilities and a nearby trail system from one of the gyms plus an on base rec area. NOTE: If bringing pets, they require in-hand proof of all shots/vaccinations. We enjoyed our stay even with the bad weather, but the overall experience score is down due to the isolated location and not taking reservations. We called 6 times and got no answer over 2 days, so took a chance that there would be a site open. There is a lot of open area and saw several deer and lots of different birds.

Stayed here over 2 weekends and will return. Location: If looking for a base of travel in the LA area, this is a nice point. Without a toad, the surrounding areas are a bit of a hike. Although, with a bicycle, the city, shops and beach are quite easy to get to. Clean/Hosp: RV pad areas were well maintained, the bathrooms/laundry as well. The staff at check-in was also friendly and helpful. Amen/Fac: Park has a RV wash area (any other washing of RV/vehicle prohibited), although it was closed on our 2nd stay. Numerous walking trails around the base and into the wildlife preserve area. The beach is about 1 1/2 to 2 miles away on base, several more off base. There is a small base NEX with basic items and a gym and credit union within a 1/3rd of a mile. Value: A very nice park, although a bit expensive for a military RV park. But given that it is nice and quiet and new AND in the LA area, not a bad value.

If you are looking for a park "ON" the ocean, this is it. Location: The base and park are a bit away from the surrounding city and without a toad, its a bit of a walk to the NEX area. But, you are 1 sand dune from the beach. Clean/Hosp: Front desk staff very nice and helpful (also serves as lodge/hotel desk). A drawback to being so close to the beach is lots of blowing sand and the restrooms are a little dated, but fine. Amen/Fac: Since I was here about 6 years ago, the base has gone down hill with many areas looking overgrown and some (driving range) closed completely. There is a NEX, club/cyber area, gym and such about 1 1/2 miles from park on main road. There is also a lot of wildlife to view (birds, seals, etc) in the areas surrounding the park. Also a change since the early 2000's, the road around the base perimeter and ANG base is closed (used to make for a nice run/bike ride and had areas of extensive wildlife).

This was our 2nd and 3rd time staying here and we will return again. There are many long term RV'ers staying here, but during both visits, once they had reached the 30 day mark, they were requiring them to leave for a week (VERY unusual for many military parks, but great to see them enforce the rules vice ignore them!). Talked to many of the people staying and everyone was really happy about their stay.

We have stayed here 4 times now and agree with many of the comments about the shower area and sites. It is also a bit of a walk to get to the shower areas from many of the sites. This was our first time staying in one of the full hook-up sites, they are gravel, mostly level. Also, there are many lakefront sites that are at a very steep angle and difficult to level out on. The mini-golf/picnic area across lake was fun and not used much and the trail around the lake is nice, although isolated in some areas.

Used this as a point to view the Morro Bay/Cambria/Hearst Castle area. Location: Like most of the comments, this park is a bit out of the way, but quiet. Clean/Hosp: Gate sentry very nice and friendly, due to holiday, check in/out closed until our check out. Park very dusty during frequent windy conditions. Restrooms very old and rundown, but working. Amen/Fac: Most base facilities were closed or on very limited hours of operation, even during non-holiday times. There is a small PX and a very nice golf course (off base, across street) as well as El Chorro park across street. If not wanting a resort style stay, for the price, this is a good value.

We really enjoyed our stay at this park, very clean and modern. Location: a little off of Hwy 101, but near Channel Island shops and marina area. Clean/Hosp: Kept quite clean, lounge/laundry/rest rooms plus grounds nice. Very friendly staff. Amen/Fac: All concrete pads, mostly level, full base facilities all close to park, seabee museum. A nice area, we will return.

Location- not much around area. Good stop-over park. Cleanliness/Hospitality - Given the choice to pay at check-in pm or check-out in am. Amenities/facilities - Glacier water machine not working with no sign stating. Change machine was out of money in laundry facility, but lots of machine. Had to walk to shoppette to obtain change. NEX had control of vending machines/change machine. Shade was at a premium, it was hot. Value - excellent stop over park.

Location- was easy to get to from the main gate. But coming from Hwy 10, going west we passed one closed gate and drove half way around the perimeter of the base to get to the "main gate". Amenities/facilities - nice fitness trail by the golf course. Park has both gravel & concrete slabs and generally level. Value - excellent for the price. Would stay again.

Our overall stay was quite enjoyable. LOCATION: Park is very easy to get into and out of and the sites are wide and level (maybe some minor slant). Sites 63-73 are right along 54 Freeway and do have a little road noise. CLEANLINESS/HOSPITALITY: All common areas were very neat and clean. The family room check-in/out person on 18th was really friendly and helpful as was the housekeeping/cleaner. Our only complaint of the stay occurred during check-in the evening of the 17th, where we had a fairly abrupt and rude night host (not what you want for your parks first impression). AMENITIES/FACILITIES: Great, clean restroom, really nice family room including a nice gym and complete kitchen. Also right next to shoppette. Park was quite dog friendly. VALUE: Great deal, full hook-ups, big lots, close to base and local area for $15 ($13 with Golden Age/Access). Would definitely stay again.

This was our 3rd time staying here and we have always enjoyed each stay. There are several areas that could be improved (upgrade/modern showers or increase number of sewer hook-up sites, several asphalt RV sites quite angled and slanted to one side, more than 1 shower/rest room (a bit of a hike from some of the North side sites or work with the gym to allow patron to shower there)). However, these are mostly minor items and overall this is a great place to stay. We really liked the numerous trails (including the lake loop), numerous porta-potti's (at least during our stay, always clean), great pet walking areas (although some owners need to remember THEY are required to clean up after their pet!!!) and several available "things-to-do" at nearby rec office (Mini-golf, boat rentals, volleyball, baseball, etc.). It is close to the Navy hospital but a bit of a distance from other facilities (if you plan on walking), driving there are 2 exchange/commissary areas within 8 1/2 miles. They also have an available "honey-pot" service since most sites don't include sewage hook-up, but there is a provided dump station on site. We will definitely stay again.
