We stayed for 3 weeks at Fiddler's Cove and enjoyed it very much. While we were there, management had a "town hall" meeting for the patrons. Here's the scoop as of mid-Apr 07: (1) The campground may or may not shut down Sept 2007 for reconstruction. At issue right now is the sequencing of funding. Only thing to do is call before going after Sept 07 to see what they have. (2) The new campground will have W/E/S and possibly cable TV if there's enough in the budget. An additional bath house with laundry will be built near the middle of the RV park. The number of hook-up site will remain about the same, but the dry camp area will be converted into full H/U sites so each site will have more space. (3) Because of endangered species in the local area, they can only do construction from Sept-Apr. This means that construction of the campgrounds may take a couple "seasons."

Located in North Fort Lewis, the famcamp is on the opposite side of I-5 from the PX/Commissary and main post. You have to leave the north post, go under the freeway, and through the gate to the main post. It's about 1.5 miles to get to the PX/Commissary. The general location in Washington was ok, about 50 miles south of Seattle, and somewhat convenient to Mt Ranier. The famcamp itself is very picturesque, set into a wooded area along a lake. The Fort Lewis Adventure Center, where you check in, has a tickets & tours office, a ski/scuba counter, and retail items for skiing, scuba, fishing, and RVs. Limited selection for food however. The counter personnel were very friendly and accommodating. The laundry area in the RV part was out of service due to a windstorm, but a second laundry in the cabin area was available. Most of the sites require some leveling, especially side-to-side. Overall an outstanding camp - I would definitely stay again.

Located near wine country, the famcamp was a good location to hang out and explore the area. There are only 6 sites, W/E only - dump station is back towards the main base along side the road. There are plenty of nice walking trails, including trails to the main part of the base. No BX/Commissary to speak of, but there is a mini-mart and small CG exchange. Theater has movies every night, and retirees are allowed to use the dining hall. Nice, quiet famcamp - we would stay again.

Excellent location - two miles from Monterey Bay, Fisherman's Wharf, and the bay recreation trail. Bonus is Fisherman's Wharf had specific parking for RVs ($2/hr or $8/day). However, the gravel sites in the famcamp generally weren't level and the sewer hook-up was above my RV's outlet. The dump station was a good foot higher than the adjoining sloped road. The famcampg was generally clean and the surrounding golf course scenic. Didn't use the bathroom, but the laundry was good - 4 washers/4 dryers. The camp is under the approach end of the Monterey airport, but the occasional aircraft really didn't bother us. No problems with the front office help. We also scouted out the Monterey County Fairgrounds campground next door (at $30/nt) and it was small a parking lot with hook-ups - definitely not as good as the famcamp.

Middle of nowhere - but that's Edwards AFB for you. Campground is level, open area with some trees. You have to look on the BACK of the Famcamp sign to see what sites are open. Most of the sites are close together with side-by-side hook-ups. Commissary and BX across main drag (4 lanes + turn lane), gym about a mile away (1/2 mile if you walk). There is a sidewalk to the BX/Commissary through a traffic light. A new bathhouse/laundry is being built and should be ready Spring 2007. Most facilities are closed after 8PM except mini-mart and any off-base facilities are about 20 miles away, so plan accordingly. Decent place to stay for passing through.
