As mentioned by others, this is a homestead campground; it is definitely not a FAMCAMP. Really seems that the Air Force has more problems of this type than any service. Some get cleaned out every so often, other never, and some clean house for a while and then go back to the same old ways. Office has a big board with all sites listed. Just take a look, we're here in March 2010 and several on board show check in early 2009 months; that is surely not a 6 month stay on one of the 42 Long Stay sites! Also, every site is filled right now, dry camping only and yet when I was at the office this AM one of the long stay campers came in to extend stay and no questions were asked by the staff, just make the added payment and all set. This situation really stinks and should be corrected. Maybe if enough of us "travelers" give such reviews someone at Keesler AFB will take note and make corrections. Not much in amenities also, no internet, no TV, etc. Bottom line - great for homesteaders, not what FAMCAMP should be.

Very nice, small FamCamp - as noted, no sewers but OK for a short stay. Previous reviewer Arnie had it right on entry, in fact it appeared to me that all access to base is through the one gate, all other access points seem to be permanently closed. Entry is from I-90, to MA33 (Memorial Dr), North to Right on Westover Road, that's it. WiFi has very particular "Govt" parameters that must be entered exactly as stated to gain access, an type of error will result in no access. However, after getting all just right I did get online from Site 5 which is across road from the even numbered sites. Sites have some low spots so rain, which there's been lots of in New England over this summer, make it a bit messy due to short concrete pads. Only big problem I noted and which I mentioned to office on departure (they already knew!) was "permanent" resident in Site 12 with dog barks all day while he/they are evidently gone to work! Big German Shepard so it is very loud, just open your door and he hears you and starts up, someone walks by or drives by, same thing. Office response was kind of "oh yeah it's a pretty big dog"; so guess there is no intention to act on any such complaints - too bad.

Overall a great visit! Very hard to get a reservation here; visited the area two times before and could not get in. This time I was able to change my other plans by a few days when I called in and was told this week was available. Think I have a clue to some of the reservation problem as my neighbor while here informed me that he comes here all the time! Seems he is from this area, now lives in FL, but travels back here for the summer. Was here while I was, left but said he would be back in a week for another 2 weeks in the same site, and would be in and out for the whole summer. Guess it just depends on who you know in the office, which it seems it getting to be very prevalent in the FamCamp business. Anyway, we had Site 10 and had no problems at all; maybe since we only have a 37' RV it made a difference. Pull straight in and have a great view of the Atlantic! Would be nice if they put a WiFi repeater on the tower, then maybe the whole camping area could have a signal! As is is now, down to the office area for each time to use computer, bummer. Did note that the staff (summer hires?) did not have much info on anything it seemed, could not even find me a Channel List for the Cable TV provided, said "It's in your cabin". Hello, I'm in an RV site, where's the list? Maybe a little OJT for summer help would be in order?

Doing the sights in Boston, taking in a Red Sox game, whale watching from Gloucester, eating at Woodsman's in Essex, taking the ferry from Wood's Hole to Martha's Vineyard, AND July 4th with the Boston Pops - you can do it all from this FamCamp! Have been here a few times before in our travels and for this area you cannot find any better! In fact, if you look around, the closest Private Campground to this area is about 25 miles further west from here. Give it a 4 on Value since there is no monthly rate, but I cannot say too many great things for this location and the service that is provided, and they have added WiFi which is a great improvement that ALL FamCamps should impelment. WiFi is better the closer you are to the office but maybe they will put in a repeater sometime to extend better service to the far end of the park. Seniors can ride the "T" for 60cents, just have to get a SR Charlie Card, load $$ in, and remember to not go below $1 before adding more or the card will cancel. We had daughter & granddaughter during July 4th, took the T to Kendall Square, set up on the Cambridge side of river, music from Pops program is right there, and the two fireworks barges are right in front of you -what a great experience! Back at FamCamp before midnight with no problems whatsoever, so don't believe it if you see "horror" stories about attending the 4th celebration. Hanscom AFB and the Hanscom FamCamp folks are 5*****!

Have stayed here a couple of times in past. One of the few USAF camps that take reservations, so that's a plus. Nice site arrangements, plenty of room but offers very little else for the price, so amenities/value really keeps the rating for this camp down. Departed on a Sunday; only one gate operational for a HUGE base.

Since I lived for 28 years in San Antonio before going full time in 2001, I have stayed at FSH many times since our kids and grandkids still live there. Never considered staying at any other campground and usually stayed at FSH for a month at time, and on occasion would leave for the required period (think it was 3 days) and come back for another month. But as you note, I've not stayed there since Summer of 2006 - why? The road situation into the campground is just absurd! Every time it rains anywhere in the area, local or upstream, the road floods and may not open for days. I was just in SA for a month, 15 April - 14 May 2008 but road was closed when I wanted to come in and as far as I could tell, while driving by occasionally on I-35, never reopened - Holbrook road entrance was still open. That's the biggest drawback but second is computer access. Until about three years ago the campground had 3 computers available for use and 2 DSL lines for personal laptops - until some idiot downloaded porno on one of the government furnished computers and everything was removed by the "post internet cops". Since that time it's one phone line which is shared with the office house phone. These two factors have forced me to look to a private SA campground for my visits. Too bad that these two items can't be fixed to bring FSH back to a 5 Star camp!

This is an update to my "before arrival" posting. As others have stated, great location! Friendly, efficient office and reservation was a great plus! No problems including getting refund on advance payment for a Frequent Camper coupon. In fact, had I not had plans that required us to be in San Antonio on 15 April and couldn't be changed, was told a spot had opened up unexpectedly and we could stay for 30 days. What a bummer that I couldn't accept! Seemed to be spots open each day, with a few folks coming and going. Did appear to be a few sites that might be fairly long term, but may be camp workers or active duty, not sure of all the particulars on length of stay for this campground. One thing is for sure, Maxwell MWR and their current contract crew working Mid Bay have taken care of the "homesteader" problem that was outrageous at the FAMCAMP! Good job, but don't too many of you jump on this place, I want to go back - often! Add Wi-Fi and it would be 5 Star all the way. Couple of WiFi signals from somewhere in area with signal strength, but could not connect.

Hopefully I will be able to input a more detailed and valid revised Rating after my visit but just wanted to go on record thanking whoever is responsible for solving the "homesteading" problem that this FamCamp had in the past! We travel to this area frequently since I have a brother in Niceville and have tried for over 6 years to get a spot here with no success. After wondering why nothing was ever available I visited campground in person about 3 years ago and was told that all spaces were occupied by permanent residents, with a waiting list if someone departed and created a vacancy. Email to Maxwell AFB; replied that the camp management was contracted out to DyanCorp with contact point for them Email to DyanCorp was never answered. Have stayed in area at Ft. Benning Destin, Eglin AFB, and both local FL State Parks, so am really anxious to be able to check out MidBay! More to follow.

Great spot! Been here many times over the past 7 years and even though we are no longer full-timers, since we have a place in FL, we come up to relax 3-4 times a year for a week. On our way back from holiday period in TX and will tell you, this is not the best time to come here. All the "snowbirds" are here now which means it is crowded, crowded, crowded - full up, with all over flow taken also, which means all utility posts except on front row have two rigs hooked up to each post. Come visit in late Spring, Summer, or Fall, just not during the full Winter season. Have seen some comments on reservations - Woody is the one to talk to. If you call in and he's not on duty, call back when he is; otherwise, you may have some frustration as I have experienced the same, but never when dealing with Woody - great customer service from him!

Location is hard to beat; have stayed here several times since Jan 2001. Space is tight but just have to be careful and even big rigs are able to fit in with ease. Was looking forward to WiFi addition, but was a total disappointment! Did not work at all until call was made to the provider (Wireless Escape) 800 number, fixed after a day's delay. Then the big news - price is $9.50 day, $24.95 week, and $40 something month, can't recall exact amount. This is the most exorbitant pricing I have experienced at any campground; military, private or public in seven years of full timing. Shame on whoever in Army MWR worked up this deal - thanks but no thanks to your WiFi!
