Best news I can pass along from this visit is they have received approval for 10 more sites on the other side of the lake. We finally did see the gator and rumor has it that she had babies and she is from 14' to 17' long. As usual we had a wonderful time and all MWR personnel are really an example of what it means to be friendly and helpful. I believe this is because Charlie is #1 in our book and she only has staff that know how to help run a successful RV park. We took a day trip and Dick and Gale made it so enjoyable even though it was a cold, windy day on Jekyll Island it was just super. This RV park is very deserving of the recognition they recently received and anyone who has not been here yet be sure to stop in and see what all of us having been talking about.

We have been here so many times it is always like coming home to family. First time we decided to get LPG and the attendant was super, very efficient and friendly. Every site was filled so glad to see everyone loves this RV park as much as we do. Hope to stay longer next time.

Same check in situation as last time, young woman at desk not trained yet or does not know what customer service means. She asked for less money than we owed so I had to tell her how much we owed and she assigned us a site with a big tree at the back of the site so a 45' would not fit. Found our own site and let them know what site we took. Arrived after NorIDA went thru and lots of flooding in low areas but no standing water on sites. Boat launch area was flooded up to the Country Store so no launches while we were there. Not able to use Broadband at all this time in site 35; had to drive out of the campground about a mile then signal was good. Huge construction going on since last visit and rumor has it troops from Fort Campbell are coming to Ft. Benning. These have to be the best fed deer in the U.S. as we see so many people feeding them and they come as close as a few feet from the RV's that put out food. Love Uchee Creek and we will always return here.....

Good to see Charlie coming along so nicely after her fall and she welcomed us with her beautiful smile and good sense of humor as usual. We checked out the diesel pump at the fuel station and it was not intended for RV use as the height clearance is 12' and the lane is very narrow. Sorry we did not look at the reviews while there or we could have stopped by D3 and said hello.

Good news for those waiting for Wi-Fi as all the hardware has been purchased and the next 60 days the logistics will be worked out for the installation. New tile in shower/restroom area is not moving as quickly as hoped for but they hope to have it done for the winter season. Big project going on right now is the environmental abatement near the gun range and this should be done by August. Maybe just maybe the air conditioned building at the firing range will become the activity center for the campground but this is just in the hoping stages. It has been several years since we have been here and the manager and the host are top-notch, very forthcoming with info and extremely helpful about the area. Will not wait so long to come back the next time.

Was surprised to see how full this campground is considering it is now mid-May. Social activities will be ending soon and we have been told by the end of the month many folks will be heading out for their summer trips. Had the unexpected pleasure of seeing a submarine come in and out today, not a site we get to see often. Tried the CPO buffet and was not overjoyed with it, maybe picked the wrong day so will try again. Rita will be leaving shortly but do not know who her replacement will be, she will be missed by many. Notice some new base housing being constructed and they looked lovely in their pastel colors. This is a fun place to go and we have been here dozens of times and undoubtedly will be back.

As always this is one of the best campgrounds in the military system we have ever been to. Noticed there are brand new front loading washers and dryers since we were here a few months ago. Also noticed a chain link fence around the LPG tank too since last time. Sites are about half full and the year round homesteaders we have seen for years are gone so not sure if they changed their policy. The Walgreens is now open and there does appear to be growth in the area; some housing and commercial development in Kingsland. The Exchange even looked more organized and better stocked with a better quality of clothing. If you have not been here you should make a point of coming.

Very few in overflow so we got a handicap full hookup very quickly. Have not been here since 2000 and the new section is excellent. Rumor has it this new section is scheduled to become housing and another site will be found for a campground, no idea when this is going to take place. Since there are several Naval/Coast Guard Installations we visited all of them. We were surprised to see the Coast Guard no longer lets Military Retirees eat there, in 2000 we had some great breakfasts there. Most of the staff at Sigsbee were helpful and friendly and we plan on going back in the fall. Albertsons and Publix are huge and close by and better stocked than any I have ever been in. Exchange and Commissary are small and you can walk to them from the campground. Was surprised to see they allow homesteaders here but were told they rotate also. Good strong 50 AMP and water pressure is good too. Old campground is tight and with a 45' there are not too many spaces we can fit into.

New person at desk at check in and she had no clue what to do. She asked for help and was told since we had a 45' Class A we should look for a site between 30 and 35. We took our car there and they were all full so drove around and found our own site. This check-in debacle never happened before so hope none of you will experience the same thing. Water pressure still poor and Verizon Broadband is iffy. Still one of our favorite places to come as we love the wildlife and there is a German Store and Restaurant less than 10 miles away. There are many empty sites so guess snowbirds go further south than this. Good to know for future winter travels as we leave our Florida house in the winter to escape the snowbirds who flock there; I guess we are reverse snowbirds.

First time we stayed here a month during the winter and would not do it again. So many units parked in what they call overflow sites and they share utilities so it created problems with electricity as too many people used portable electric heaters to heat their trailers. At check in we asked about a monthly rate and check-in clerk gave us an earfull. Said we should not complain about paying the daily rate as they have great views, WI-FI and full hook-up and are rated the #1 Navy campground (found out later it was by SMART). My husband was ready to leave after the tirade and I convinced him to just pay the fee and be quiet. Several of the old timers were there as volunteer workers and they said during conversation that so many of the regulars will not come there anymore, do not know what that means but since we heard it more than once there must be some truth to it. Will go here during the summer as we have done in the past when it is not overflowing with too many campers.

Yep this is the best MCG we have gone to also, that is why we come back so much. The hospitality is top notch and they sure believe cleanliness is next to Godliness here. I can attest second hand that gators really do live in lake D, someone saw it on the island a few days ago and its in the huge category! Since last year there is a fishing pier and a small gazebo at the end of the pier, just another example of how they know what to do to make you feel welcome here and this hospitality seems to flow through the campers that are here, many smiles all around. Sites are filled up each day and they can accommodate a couple of "non-reservationists" at the end of the rows where you do get electric and water.

Yep this is one of the best if not the best MCG we have ever visited too. Have been here many times and always clean, organized check-in, top notch Manager and Hosts, lots of fun stuff to do. This is the first time someone actually saw the huge gator in the island on Lake D so it does exist. Also ladies if you need your hair cut and styled, the shop in the Exchange does a professional job for a reasonable cost. Park is full right now but each day some folks leave so an overnighter would be possible; they have some overflow sites too with electric and water and then you have a convenient dump station on the way out.
Jan. 3, 2009 for one night
Called two days ago to see if they had one night for us on our way home from Charleston NWS and got lucky. Office closed but Host greeted us and our packet was ready for us. Host stated they now allow some folks to stay through the winter and so far have not had to turn anyone away due to the extended stays. Last time we were here LPG was not set up, it is now. Many familiar faces to us so this has become like a second home. Did not meet the Manager but have been told she is top notch, hope to meet her when we get back here in about 5 days.
Drove through Dec. 29th, 2008
It has been several years since we drove through the RV park and it still looks like a place I would not take any type of RV. Trailers in the wooded sites were in deplorable condition and most sites were not occupied. The sites not in the woods were full so this says it all. Staff in the office were helpful when we asked for maps and info. Maybe someone from this RV Park should spend time at Charleston NWS and learn how an RV park can be a big revenue producer.
Dec. 28th thru Jan. 3rd, 2009 Happy New Year
Our second stay here and we will be back. As many have said the host John is what we expect all hosts to be. The 10 sites for reservations are about half full and John hopes to set up a few more. The staff in ITT/Outdoor Rec are also personable and helpful. All utilities are excellent and my value would have been a 5 if a social hall was available. The PX here is actually more organized and has a better selection than Charleston AFB, quite surprised. Just a reminder for you Big Riggers out there, make sure you tell them the length of your RV when you call as a couple of the reserve sites cannot accommodate them and some are narrow for four slide outs (this was John speaking) and he knows of what he speaks!
