Selfridge Air National Guard Base is not closed as stated above. The campground is closed. Selfridge is still alive and doing very well. The Army Garrison was closed and they ran the MWR programs which included the campground. The exchange and commissary are still up and running.

We usually stay in the campground. This time we rented one of the lakeside chalets, and yes, there are alligators in the lake. We saw at least two. The chalets have 2-bedrooms and come with a fully equipped kitchen and towels and linen. We did drive through the campground because we have complained in the past about the back section being so trashy looking. This time it looked a lot better but still looked like some homesteading were taking place. There just didn't seem to be as much as before. Staying in the chalets were a great experience and we will stay there again.

This is our usual stop on our last day on the road to our home in Michigan. It gives us a chance to empty our tanks and do some other housekeeping. We arrived early and were able to do some shopping at exchange and commissary. The campground this time looked a little unkempt and the grass and weeds were out of control. It never looked this way before so it won't keep us from stopping here again.

I'm late with this review but wanted to get it in. We've stayed here several times and will continue to do so. It's a very nice campground, however, there are some negatives. We were assigned Site #8 and have used this campsite before. The Campers Cove Pavilion is located between Sites 8 and 28. This time it was rented for an afternoon and into the evening by a very large group of people with many unruly children. This pavilion is rented to people who aren't normally campers. The adults seemed to stay inside while the children played outside. There were no supervision. We had to be on our guard at all times. We couldn't leave to escape. The children were all over the place with one little one climbing the ladder of our 5th wheel several times. I complained twice to an adult but no action was taken. The office was closed and the Host wasn't home. The following day I mentioned it to the person in the office and she told me that I should have called the MP's. We didn't know. We drove through the back section of the campground for the first time ever and saw a completely different campground. There were at least 11 trashy looking campsites with RVs looking as if they had been there for a very long time. One even had a large refrigerator outside. A couple of trailers looked as if they had everything they owned piled in and around and under their RV. For a campground that doesn't allow homesteading, there sure seemed to be a lot of it going on. This is still a very nice campground (front section) and we will continue coming here. The new AAFES Mall is one of the best we've seen anywhere. It is about 12 miles from the campground. The Dixie Road Shoppette has diesel fuel. The Fryar Drop Zone is 3 miles from campground (turn left at entrance to Uchee Creek and go 3 miles) and have grand stands for viewing paratroop drops. I don't know the schedule of these drops but when the Air Force planes are flying they are usually doing air drops. When staying here you have to understand that everything is about 12-15 miles away, i.e., Exchange, Commissary, Restaurant and shopping in Columbus and Phoenix City. I didn't mean to beat this campground up so hard but some things need to be pointed out.

I live 4 miles from this campground and have never stayed here but driven through it several times in the past 3 years. It is not in my opinion a great campground as stated in last review. This place is a mud hole when it rains. One site had a fresh looking load of broken concrete dumped on it and not spread out very good. But I'm not going to beat this campground up to much because they are closing. The official closing date as of this visit is June 30, 2008.

We made a day trip here and didn't stay overnight. The folks at the gate were very friendly, gave us a map and pointed out locations of various activities. There are two campgrounds. We only checked out Battleship Row with full hookups. We did not drive through Anchor Cove so can't comment on it. Battleship Row met my standards with paved roads and sites. Restrooms and laundry was clean. There are plenty of things to do here. They have two mini golf courses, marina, boat ramps, beach, boat rentals, tennis and other. This is an old seaplane base so there is a lot of concrete. The only negative is the distance from NAS Pensacola, 15 miles.

We occupied Site #28 near entrance to campground. All sites are paved but the roads within the campground are gravel and very dusty. We had about 90 percent of all campground traffic pass our site creating a lot of dust. The hostess said there have been talk about paving the roads. We will try to get into a site on the back row next time. The Naval Aviation Museum is three-quarters of a mile from the campground. It is excellent and free. The Blue Angels practice for their airshows mostly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 0830 but this can change. Pickup a schedule at the museum. Get to the viewing area at least 30 minutes early and park at the museum. There is a grand stand (I've heard there is seating for 4,000 people) for viewing or you can take your lawn chair. There was standing room only on the day we went. You can take coffee, water, pop, etc., with you. Other interesting sites on base and within a mile or so of campground are Fort Barrancas, Barrancas National Cemetery and the old Pensacola Lighthouse. WiFi is available for 7.95 per day, 14.95 per week or 21.95 per month. There are no phone lines for dial-up. On site RV washing is allowed with fresh water only, no chemicals of any kind are allowed. The base has a free wash rack with 5 hoses. However, on the day we were there we found all hoses but one to be unusable due to rot. Take your own. The main exchange/commissary are off main base on U.S. Highway 98 about 3 miles from main gate. The gas stations at the main exchange and shoppette down the road across from the campground have diesel fuel. There are Super Walmarts just outside main and back gates. The hosts were very friendly. We will definite return to this campground.

From the time we pulled into front entrance we could see that things were going to be a little tight for our 37-foot 5th wheel and crew cab truck. It was a very tight turn from the street and around the curves into the campground part of the park. Most big rigs will have trouble getting into most of the sites. There is a couple of corner sites a little longer and with straight back in. We were unlucky to get Site #6 which was a nightmare to get into with about 6 feet separating it from our neighbor site #5. We had to fight a lightpole and a fire hydrant directly across from our site on the one lane road. There was a car parked on the grass ajacent to our site which helped make backing in difficult (Parking on the grass is against the rules and they "strictly enforce" their rules). The owner of the car was not home. The neighbor across the street did move his truck which helped a lot. I had to back into the site the best I could, unhook, rehook, and try it again. We found later that there were 2 corner sites open so don't know why they don't put the larger RVs in these when they are available. We did see the next day two small RVs in those sites (maybe friends of staff). That's why I rated hospitality so low. I also found that if you ask to extend a few days past your reservation, they make you move to a different site even though there were 6 sites open. Who makes these stupid rules? We seemed to get the worst neigbors in Site #5. We had 2 different families during our stay with each having 3 very unruly children. One day I heard a noise from the rear our trailer and found a 6-year old about half way up our roof ladder with the father watching. I hate to sound so negative here, this park could be a very nice place with a little more room. WiFi is available for $9.50 per day or $24.95 per week. There were phone hookups and I chose to use dial-up rather than pay the ridiculous prices for WiFi. RV washing allowed on site for $5.00 but POV washing is not allowed. Another rule I don't understand. This is a very close-nit recreation area with cabins, motel type rooms and campground crammed into a very small plot of land. The beaches are very close but we probably won't stay here again unless we are desperate. NOTE: Try to stay away from Site #6 because when you have a neighbor in Site #5 you have no view at all.

This was a visit only, not overnight. There are two sections, one pretty bad and the other better. Postl Point is near the Outdoor Recreation office and not very appealing. It looks like it would be quite wet during heavy rain. Camp Robbins would be okay but is not as nice as some of the campgrounds we've stayed in. It is located near the BX/Commissary. The pads are gravel with a concrete patio. Although you can stay there for 6 months (and extend for 30 day increments), I didn't see a lot of garbage piled around and under RVs. There were plenty of available sites at Postl Point and 8 at Camp Robbins. You have to go to Camp Robbins to check in at both areas. Seems to be better looking than last post of 1 year ago.

We are staying at the Destin Army Recreation Area (review to come in a couple of days) and drove here to take a look for future use. Very disappointed! There are two sections with one a very trashy place and the other not a whole lot better. The pads are concrete and with a little cleanup could be a real nice place. There was one motor home that looked like it had been there forever. There were 7 other trashy looking rigs with junk piled under them or on outside. The location is on south side of US-98 just outside the main gate to Hurlburt Field. I rated the value low because you are not getting a very nice campsite for your money. We didn't see any office building or host. We were told by another person that stayed here in the past that there is little control as to who comes and goes there. We weren't there long enough to check this out. It appears to me just like other military RV parks that don't take reservations that ends up being a private park for friends of the people in charge. We would never try to stay here.

We have been here for 6 days now. We have not been harassed by anyone. We haven't had any run-ins with the so-called campground "police" and no negative contact with the campground staff. My wife has used the laundry room twice and hasn't been told how to do her laundry. We usally read the campground rules and try to obey them and that keeps us out of trouble. As for as the pet situation, there seems to be a lot of dogs here and I haven't seen any off their leash yet. We have a cat that never goes outside. Rules are only good if they are enforced and I don't have any problems with campground hosts that enforce the rules. We arrived here at about 1130 and drew a waterfront site. What good luck! There are Navy and commercial ships and dolphins right out front. The campground is always full with several in overflow sites. There is free laundry (and yes my wife did do wash twice, it's not impossible as other reviewer suggested), nice community room with two computers for guests to use, clean bathhouses and free WiFi. RV washing is allowed on site. I don't know where you would ever find a nicer campground. If there were an election today for the best military campground I've been to (I've been to 20), this place would get my vote. Don't always listen to the negatives, come and see for yourself.

We didn't stay here just visited to check things out. I had called the reservations number to inquire about site sizes and whether I could get a 37-foot 5th wheel in. I had heard from others that it was pretty tight getting anything over 30 feet down some of the roads. The person answering the phone couldn't tell me anything because he was at Maxwell AFB. I called the site phone number he gave me for 3 days and didn't get an answer. I didn't want to go there without knowing if I could get in so we got a site at the nearby Wind Creek State Park (also on Lake Martin) and drove over to recreation area. The place was unacceptable. It looked trashy with many units looking as though they had been there forever. There were no one around to talk to including front gate. There was a large motor home trapped on of the roads trying to turn around and having a tough time. I didn't stop to offer help because several people were already trying to advise him how to get out. For all I know, he may be still there. I don't know how he was going to get out of that situation. We don't plan to go back there ever with or without 5th wheel.

We made reservations and had to pay up front (with credit card on phone). We have to get used to doing it this way as more and more campgrounds are asking to get paid at time reservation is made. We have stayed here 8 times and can't complain about too much. It's close to the runway but this is an Air Force base so it's expected that airplanes might be close. The laundry is small with dial up available there. I agree with previous reviewer that they could use part of that large office for a lounge with computer hookups or WiFi. Air Force Museum is great and free! We plan to stay there many more times.

We have stayed in this campground several times during the past 5 years and have no complaints. We have been assigned pull thrus each time and they had enough room and privacy as we needed. I've heard the complaints about the airplanes flying over but guess what, paratroopers need airplanes to operate and if the noise bothers you, don't stay there. It's not that bad. The only negative for the people who like to go to the Exchange/Commissary every day is that it is about 9 miles from the campground.

We had reservations at a privately owned park in Ocean Springs but cancelled them when we arrived and took a look at it. Very tight and junky. Called Keesler Famcamp and was told they had overflow available with water and electric. The site was on grass between two regular sites. There were two other units in overflow and I just figured that you go on a list and get the next available full hookup site. Not! The following morning the hostess told me its first come, first serve but you have to be physically on site in order to move to a full hookup site. I asked her if that meant that I would have to sit at the campground for 5 days and not go anywhere in order to be moved and she said "Yes". That is the only reason that I rated hospitality so low. Anyway, at about 9:00 a.m. I noticed a motorhome across from me moving and I quickly hooked up and moved and received no flak. Didn't seem a good system to me. Other than that and a couple of junky sites (motorhome with about a ton of boxes piled up outside and a travel trailer on cememt blocks)the campground was OK. If in the area we would try to get back into this Famcamp.
