This is our first time at Pelican Roost and we are very impressed. We rate it as being in the top 5 military campgrounds of which we've stayed in around our Nation. Looking forward to returning in the future. Clean, easy to get around in, front row sites are the best if making reservations in advance.

Campground off base has large sites. However, you must go into Marina office on base to check in which is impossible in a 40' motorhome. They should have a system where the campground host opens gate calls to office and gets you on your site then you can go down and pay.

One of the best views of any of the military campgrouds in which I have stayed. Watched big naval ships entering and leaving the base, as well as large civiian cargoe ships and lots of pleasure craft. Also had a great show by the wild dolphins who stayed and played in the area for several hours both days. Campground personnel are some of the most courteous and helpful I have met. Will return for a longer visit.

Got to be the worse operated campground in the military. selected people have special treatment. The cg host at the larger cg has a patio that looks like sandford and sons but if you try to keep anything outside he will be on your case that minute. each year the rates goes up and nothing has been added to the cg for the customers. The main cg on post is so close together that if you are at your patio table you can watch the neighbor's sewer hose move when he flushes.

Very Friendly and pleasant small campground right on the water. This was our very first ever camping experience with our new Jayco. Lots of Fishing, beaches were very private and clean. There were a lot of ammenities on the base-but we didn't really use them-we just relaxed in the sunshine. It was great sitting at the picnic table eating watching all manner of huge naval ships coming in and out. A very positive experience, and the ferry ride over was well coordinated. Don't miss a day trip to Amelia Island while camping here-Fort Clinch at the northern end is worth the effort to get there and the island is beautiful.

This was the worse military family camp that I ever stayed at. The RV pads were very close together, behind a large building which blocked any view. I have a 24ft RV and I had difficulty getting in and out of the park. I would not recommend this to anyone. Tyndall AFB just down the road is a much better choice.

This will become one of our favorite spots. From our living room window we had a great view of the beach. The beach was down a short path. Water was about 86 degrees. Sand is beautiful white. The Pensacola Lighthouse was .5 miles by GPS down a dirt road (road is in great shape.) If you have never had the opportunity to stand right under a lighthouse at night you don't want to miss this one. You can actually see the glass in the 1st order lens sparkle and watch the star pattern of light track across the sky. We carried a flashlight in case we needed it but we did not need it except to change camera settings. (Got some incredible shots.) You get enough light from the lighthouse to guide your way. We walked to the Museum of Naval Aviation (.8 miles by GPS.) This is a wonder in itself. Picture 4 Blue Angel plans hanging over your head in one very small alcove (a very small protion) of this building. It is one of the best museums we have ever been in. Very well maintained. Wonderful exhibits. Guided tours. You get to sit in the cockpits of a lot of aircraft. Play area for children. We spent 2 hours and could have spent at least that much time again. And it is FREE! I would recommend this spot for anyone in the area. Fill up on gas at their station. I think they have the lowest price in FL. Park itself is well maintained. Trees are trimmed and the facilities at your site are all in good working order. There are walking paths (in excellent shape) all around the area to the lighthouse, museum and cabins. You can hear firing from the gun range and engine runs from the runway but it is a military base after all. Not late at night and not in excess.

Great Place to stay. So many things to see and do.

Wonderful place to stay. Would have rated it higher, but it needs some capital improvements (paved or at least level sites and better access to beach i.e stairs). Comfort station was very clean and well cared for. Rocky and Eggy Lorenzo (host and hostess) were extremely friendly. Lots to see and do in Destin area. Highly recommend renting boat from either Eglin AFB or Fort Benning Recreation area and exploring the bay and beaches. Would definitely stay again.

The Blue Angels practice nearly overhead on Tues and Wed. Great show. Very clean campground and shower house. Plenty of places between sites so you don't feel crowded. Very friendly and helpful host.

We were very pleased with the cabins. We were right on the bay so had a great view. Our older daughter wanted to travel to Destin to go to the beach, since the water is so beautiful. But our 10 year old son was very content right there at the campsite. Very relaxing. Nice staff. The only negative thing I can think of is the foldout couch was not very comfortable (but are they ever). Take your own pillows too!

Caution - Ask about flooding. We were placed in one of the middle rows (site 78, I believe) - waterelectric only. It rained one night and we had about 4 inches of water all around the rig the next morning. Found my shoes floating down the road next to a blue heron that was trying to find breakfast. Avoid this row since it is in-line with the dump, which was also flooded. Not sure what all was mixed in with the rain water. We moved to a dry site. Wish the camp host would have placed us in a site that didn't flood in the first place. The firing range was active (after 8am) on several mornings.

Wonderful spot. Each RV site can see the bay. Because it is the bay the water is calm (good for small children) and does not get deep quickly. Good distance between RV sites.

This park is in a beautiful location. The base is in between the Atlantic Ocean and the Banana River. The campground is along the Banana River and several campsites back up to the river. There is a swimming beach right across the road from the main gate that is still on AFB property. There are two downsides that people need to be aware of. First of all, the sites are not paved and we found them not to be level. Secondly, the only Internet access is via two phone lines in the laundry room or at the base library (which is open 7 days a week and the staff is friendly and helpful.) We stayed for a week and might have stayed longer had wireless Internet been available.

Very nice campground but when we arrived there were no hook-up sites available, had to dry camp. The only draw-back was the firing range was about 75 feet behind us....we will never complain about "train noise" again. We will visit this campground again.
