We camped at Travis for a week and had two sites (one for a non-military friend) and we loved the place! Yes...Tony is a little weird! He drove my wife crazy when he micro-managed my backing into the site, but I believe he was looking out for the well-being of the site...with the trees/shrubs it was a tight fit. Mary checked us in and that went smoothly...even for our guest. The only fault Mary might have is being a little hard of hearing (like many in our age group). Once set up Tony pretty much went about his business of keeping the park in tip-top shape...not once did he bother us! The park is in excellent condition and Travis AFB has everything you need...including the cheapest diesel around the area...almost $1.00 better than some stations in San Francisco! All in all one of the best camping deals we've found...and we travel a lot.

This is the most expensive Military campground we've run across. The campground is OK but way too expensive, and you have to pay to use their amenities. Lots of better deals in the area. It's a little out of the way to be a convenient stop over park and too expensive too boot..We won't go back!

This place is kind of laid back, a little woodsy/rustic...and we found it a good place to relax. Although not paved the sites are large and most have a beautiful view of the Choctawhatchee Bay. They have covered picnic tables on a concrete slab. We have a Porta-bote and it works great here...if it's windy we just stay in Lake Pippen which is protected and calm. The CG has a boat launch w/dock for fishing. The restrooms are good and kept clean. They have two places you can get on the internet with plans for park-wide Wi-Fi in the future. Eglin AFB is about a half hour drive away so if you need groceries Niceville is more convenient. If you like to golf I hear Eglin has a top notch course and there are lots of others around. This CG has been around a while and some of the facilities are showing their age...but we're enjoying our stay and we'd surely come back again.

We stayed here last year and as you can see from our ratings, we really like this place...We'll be back! One of this parks strong points is their activities...there's almost always something going on. Watching the ships come and go is also pretty neat.

We opted for Trumbo as it within walking distance of down town Key West. This was our first time dry camping and we don't have a generator. As it turned out we met a camper who had an extra Honda 2000i and as soon as he heard we didn't have one...he loaned it to us! By the way...Thanks a bunch! We walked into town a couple of times from the campground...good exercise. Key West is so congested that's the best way to go if you are able. Lots of people take their bicycles too. We plan to return in the future and recommend this CG to anyone that doesn't mind a little dry camping.
