The park needs some work in the cosmetic arena as the sand could be replaced with some grass. When campers leave, the areas aren't cleaned as my site was filled with cigarette butts and paper. I understand that the previous camper should have been responsible but they weren't. There is no cable TV and the antenna signals are very poor even with the digital converter. It cost $20.00 with a 10% discount for club membership. The camp has a 5 mph speed limit yet all seem to drive far too fast, even the police. Almost no control of animals using camper spaces with no clean up. The camp manager isn't very friendly and needs some training in dealing with people. There are some spaces in the area of 1-8 that blocks satellite signals because of the trees. There is one camper parked in a horrible, nasty beat up old Allegro class A that has been there for at least 4 years in one spot or the other. It is a disgrace for any rig of that sort to be allowed to park. It is an accident waiting to happen.

Rick is an excellent host with the interest of the camper in mind. There are a few trees that need trimming so it doesn't damage coaches. The new 50 amp sites are well designed except they are about 3" low in the front part of the slab. The price is $18.00 with discounts only for the USAF frequent camper program. Don't try and exit the Kelly avenue gate unless you have a class B as the turn and width are too tight. You can continue straight past the Bell avenue gate and enter Maxwell during the week at the Kelly gate. However you must go to the BX parking lot and turn around to get to Craig avenue.

The Park is NOT BIG RIG FRIENDLY!! with far too many trees to be able to park with the exception of a select few sites. The park worker (a black lady with MWR on her shirt,) told us to go and pick a place on Trout road. It was a small cramped place that had several open places ALL too small for a 36' big rig. The turn around wasn't big enough to turn around. I had to unhook and maneuver the rig so I could get out. I went to area 2 and selected a place, also very hard to get in. I went to pay and the MWR worker said that place was taken. I asked how could it be take and she said someone came in a few days before and paid for it. There was no notice on the site. The lady was very unprofessional and not "user friendly" with a bad attitude. They don't take reservations but there were many sites that were empty with reservation slips on the sites. Never again!!

The campground has great possibilities but there is just very little interest in camper hospitality. The manager cut the grass in the middle of the day and it generated a major dust storm through the open camper door. There was no grass only dirt. The speed limit of 5 mph is impractical but regardless there is no enforcement. The managers are very unfriendly and are more concerned with office chit-chat than helping campers.. A bit pricey at $19.00 and no cable. Antenna reception is terrible. Cell phone reception on base for AT&T and Verizon in marginal at best. There are too many local campers with empty rigs. They pay and stay only on weekends. Very poor animal control with barking dogs and no clean up.

With the construction of the new base housing that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, the main entrance road on Jim Money has been changed to the another road. Go past the old entrance to the 4 way stop, turn right for about 500 yards and there is a small road that cuts the RV storage area in half. There are temp signs and no street name but you can't miss it. It is a hard turn with a big rig near the office because the construction has taken away the overflow. The new road doesn't allow two rigs side by side so be aware. They plan to construct more overflow but we all know how rebuilding goes with the priority to build 1067 new base housing units that were destroyed. Lee Parmeter losone

The host is a retired Navy Command Master Chief and very interested in your camping experience to be excellent. The sites are very flat concrete pads. The laundry is free as well as the base movie. The Exchange as well as the comissary are closed on Sunday and Monday. It is a small base with limited facilities but very friendly people. A few of the pads don't have water because of faucet failures. Like the description notes you CANNOT use the main gate to enter or leave. The South gate is the only option. Lee Parmeter (losone)
