Check in was easy, the host takes you around to show you the empty spots and you can pick from the open ones. It is common knowledge that you will only have dry camping to choose from. But since we were only here on a short-term basis, that was fine with us. We were facing the gulf and waking up to that view through the front window was worth it! Weather wasn't all that warm while we were here but it is still better than snow. Water and sewer were convenient to get to. Found the showers and laundry to be clean, unlike earlier posts. Agree that using a bicycle is THE way to get around (if you are able). It was a little over 4 miles to get downtown and plenty of places to park a bike. We will definitely be back!

Had to dry camp for our 3 days but that was ok. We were allowed to run our generator when we needed to and the water faucet was close by to refill water jugs for coffee and flushing. Made use of the laundry since it was free and there are plenty of machines. Friendly staff and campers. We learn a little more each time we stop at a new (to us) facility. So far we have been lucky (or fortunate) to find a spot when we arrive without a reservation. Our next stop is Patrick AFB and I haven't heard much that is encouraging about arriving there. Sounds like the homesteaders have that place sewed up. We shall find out tomorrow.

We had to enter the base at the Montgomery gate since we don't have a base sticker. It wasn't a big deal. We were almost to Rio Rd and got turned around due to a 'situation' up ahead...that was a minor bummer. But the MP called the Rio gate to advise them we were coming and they were very cordial and helpful when we arrived almost 30 minutes later. We didn't have any problem with low voltage so that must have been a one-time problem. The ladies in the office where we registered were very helpful and friendly. The Rio gate guards went above the call of duty when I had to get a few groceries at the Walmart just around the corner...I asked them if I had to go all the way around to go in the north gate since I don't have a sticker...the guard took my info and when I came back an hour later, the new guard had my info and let me in. I would come back here. The lack of facilities wasn't a problem...most of us have bathrooms in our rv's and showers; since there are full hook-ups, what is the problem?

We only stayed 3 nights but what a prime spot for being a tourist. Everything is within a reasonable driving distance. Wes was a great host and gave us so many brochures with so many options. He came right over to our site after he got back from an outing and checked us in. If we ever come back this way, this will be on top of our list of places to stay. Almost hate to go.

This is our second stay since the first part of June 2012. I concur with all the previous reviews. I am dismayed at the laxness of emptying the dumpster..it has been over a week and it is running over. Fourth of July is 2 days away and you know it won't get picked up then. I actually bought a cheap lawn watering ring and have tried to water the "grass" around our rig. The wind is bad and newbies learn quickly you can't leave your awning down for very long. Prevailing winds seem to be from the SE and are very strong, especially in the afternoon when thunderstorms build up. We are Colorado residents and yes, the state parks are VERY pricey...over $40 for a small camp up north of Denver, so $22 doesn't seem too bad. When you consider we have had 100 degree days for over a week, being plugged in to 50amp vs. running the generator 24/7, $22 seems to be a bargain. Being close to the VA hospital and clinics is a big plus for us.

We had to "live" here for almost 2 months last year and I agree with everyone else...very nice facility. We haven't really gotten around to "rving" yet as we have legal problems with the VA but I use this site regularly and plan to give my contribution when all is resolved. We have kids in the Springs and of course VA doctor visits in Denver so this campground is the bee's knees!! Hope to try out the new one up at Buckley next week.
