Great Fam Camp. Although it is small in size, the hosts make every effort to keep everything in top condition and their efforts are commendable. There is no club house to gather in and all sites are back in (and the first row is very tight). The WIFI is slow and sometimes spotty. Our own air card was much faster so we just used it. Retirees can eat in the dining facility on Fridays and holidays. The club has free food on Friday nights for club card members, (just wings and shrimp with a relish tray when we were there). But there is plenty. The truck gate is where RV's must enter, and during the week it can be a bit of a long line waiting for inspections. (RV's are NOT inspected, but must pass thru the same gate so you have to wait in line like the big rigs). Laundry and showers were nice and clean. Three washers and dryes are kept very busy, but their costs are reasonable. I understand that there are plans to add either some pull thru's or put in elect for the overflow area, but nothing firm.

This is not a NEW NEW RV Park, it is a converted mobile home section of the base. Convenient location behind the Commissary (closed on Mondays), and near the Exchange and gas station (no diesel). Location is close to Memphis and easy access from major highways. Cleanliness is rated high as the base is kept in very nice condition. Hospitality is decent. Everyone was helpful to any and all questions, however the extra mile was not there in smiles or attitude. Just a professional, to the point answer. Value/furnishings and amenities; The current rate is to high for what is available as far as tourist attractions, amenities, etc. They have gone up to $19.50/day. There is no clubhouse to gather in and swap lies, just a combined laundry, bath house, waiting room. The laundry room is open directly to the bath and shower rooms and is a sitting area for people waiting to finish their laundry. They said they have high speed internet, however it is down as I write this. It is supposed to be accessible at all RV sights. All in all this is a clean park to stop at for a few days to rest up and replenish supplies. The cost is to high to make it a long term stay unless you need to be in the area for some reason. If you have a dish network, you may want to ask for a site that is facing south. The spots they put overnighters is in the back row facing north and the trees right behind us block satalite reception. A remote dish would probably work ok. Frank

You sure don't want to try to use this place in the "off season". After securing a reservation 30 days in advance and then trying to talk to them about changing it, they will not return any calls that are made, even though the recording says that they will. They have increased their daily rate to $20.00 and have absolutely nothing to show for it. The office is closed for the off season, and there is no camp host. If you get there after the services office somewhere over on the base is closed, you can just fill out a drop envelope and have a quiet night. No info as to what the combo to the mens and womans showers is. There is no wifi avail, and the TV reception is zilch, especially with the new "digital" TV's. Analog is poor. The CG location is great, it was neat and well kept. Since there is no office people or CG host there is no mark for hospitality, however with no amenities and just the basic E/W/S the value is WAY overpriced. It seems this place is getting an attitude. This is my third visit to this CG over the years, however I believe I will start looking into the "Local" CG's or Walmart. Frank
Received a call from Outdoor Rec due to my ICE feedback, stateing that the combo to the doors was inside the box of the "self check-in" envelopes. I didn't notice it when I was there so be aware of it and hopefully you will have a better experience than I did.
Also they stated that they had not made a new phone message to re-direct us to the Outdoor Rec Office"

The "office" has no clue about what they are doing. Was assigned site 9. This is the ONLY site that is laid out where you have to pull into at an awkward angle. It is 90 degrees off every other site for no reason other than to maybe be a managers spot for some reason. The new water access outlets are extreemely awkard to use. They are in ground. You have to lift off the plastic box cover which they cut in half and permenantly mounted half of it to the box. Then because of a heater rod, you can not get to the valve wheel to open the water valve. I have 5 scrapes on my wrist where it was scraped by the permenant cover, while trying to open and close the water valve. Whoever designed this out to be sent out to open and close the valves themselves. Second complaint is the access to the showers / laundry. At check in, they asked what keys we would need. I said men and womens shower and laundry. Was given one key and when I went to use it, it would only open the womens and laundry. The office was closed by this time, and no sign of a camp host was anywhere. There is a connection in the pedistal for telephone and cable, however neither work. The office said that they do not have a cable company contract, and did not know anything about the phone.
Asked where on base we could get a sit down meal and their best guess was the bowling alley. They didn't know if any of the clubs offered meals. Asked for a base map or campground info sheet and was told they are on the wall in the office. Overall, this is a clean and open CG and has great possibilities with the free laundry and cleaan showers. If they had a decent operation person and fixed the water concern it could be top rated. If they had a camp host to do the check in, or had someone to run the place that knew what they were doing it could sure make for a better experience. This is our third time to Fallon over the years, and it really does not seem to improve any.

Temporary CG is better than a lot of CG'S. Kept clean and organized. The new campground should be open in late March or early April. They are working on it as I write this. New CG to have 68 FHU. It would be nice to have a base map or local info available. Also Shields wi-fi is very slow. Lousy local TV reception, however satalite is un-obstructed. Lots of long stayers, as there is not limit on lenght of stay. Good price which includes the free laundry. Lots of machines and all very new.

This CG is reserved for long term stays of 28 days or longer. The RV Park/CG is located in the old trailer court area of base housing, right next to Hana State Park. A good walk to the beach. Entire park is surrounded by trees and there are very few spaces where you can receive satelite reception without a remote dish. The sun seldom breaks through, at least while we were there, so the problem with gloominess is prevelant. Phone and air card reception is strong, sometimes 4 bars, usually three. There are two hosts who try to keep up with the daily maintenance and are very hospitable. There are no ammenities or facilities here to speak of except a dumpster, however there are plenty to take advantage of over at the "Roost" (the main CG). There are plans for a clubhouse possibly in the near future but we all know that story. I felt that the daily rate was a bit high with the lack of ammenities, but I feel almost all military C/G's overcharge the military. Current rate is $13.00 with the promise of going up to the same as the Roost as soon as the clubhouse is built. Overall if you are pretty much self contained and don't rely on the showers and wifi, which is only available at the clubhouse, this is a very nice spot to kick back for a while. The local Walmart and and other big box and name stores are within a 30 minute drive. Commissary and exchange are 2 miles off base

In four years of full time, and a lot of militry CG's, the camp hosts here are the best we have found. Doc and Lori are two of the most active, involved and helpfull hosts we have found. They truely make the experience here exceptional, notice the high marks for cleanliness/hospitality. The location is only a 4 due to it's distance from anywhere, but still a great C/G. They have plans to expand the CG by next year, probably doubling its capacity. Biggest downfall is lack of sewer, however you are allowed to let gray water to run to ground (away from the RV). This is a great place to kick back, relax and spend quality time with family etc. Spaces are spaced out wide and the overall camping experience is tops. Cell phone and air card is usually three bars and broadband is available mostly during the day. WIFI is non-existant, but dial up is available. Air card is good. Retiree's can utilize the dining facility and laundry is free. Overall value is a 5. Reservations are a must.

Overall a good CG. The location with regards to most local sights is within a 30 minute drive is good. The CG location on base is easy to find and easily accessable, also reasonably close to exchange / commissary etc. Facilities are "Rustic". No sewer anywhere, however you are allowed to run GRAY water back to the woods "30 feet away". Power is 30 AMP however a 20 AMP services is also available at most sites. The ITT/Outdoor rec office is right next to CG and although only open 9-5 the staff is very friendly and accomodating. WIFI was down for "maintenance" the entire time we were there, (something sounds fishy there), but cell phone and air card reception is usually 4 bars. The CG host is keeping the restroom and laundry areas "spotless". I have seen them check it at various times during the day, early am, and evening too. The 3 grade for amenities/facilities is mainly because the CG is stagnateing. They are not putting anything into upgrading, and the rumor that a new CG is comming is long dead. Last year the new proposed CG was on the local map, it has been removed and the plans have been placed on the back burner till "after the war". Overall a nice place to stay while you are exploring Charleston, and re-supplying for your next adventure. If you are here on Friday, be sure to grab lunch at the "Charleston Club" a great seafood buffet and if you are a "club member" the price is under $7.00.

Foster Creek is a "Work In Progress". It is located off base, inside the off base housing area where there used to be a mobile home park. It is close to gas, commissary, exchange, and other ammenities such as bowling alley, hobby shop, outdoor rec, minimart, etc. Since it's being listed last year on this web site, the attendance has gone from 4 RV's last year to Full this year. Of the 46 spaces right now, one is set aside as un-usable, there is no pad, just soft dirt, they hope to have it repaird in the near future. Also there are 12 more sites that are being developed from a storage area, also completion due in hopefully near future. They are trying to accomodate anyone who arrives, but there is no area for dry camping, they just park you where they can. The camp host "Carl" is bending over backwards to do what he can. Reservations are now being taken for 10 of the available spots, however 2 of these spaces are secured by active duty so there are really onle 8 spots. The CG was very clean and they have a new bath/laundry building and a new wifi building. They have plans for a clubhouse, but these are only a vision at this time. We moved to another CG in the area as we were unsure as to when we would get into hookups, however with their ambitions, this place will continue to blossom. It appears that management is happy with the operation and is doing everything to support its growth. Look for more good things to come from this place.

Definately Location is TOP. The new staff is doing a great job with what they have to work with. The condition of the laundry is the worst I have seen ever. Understand the new managment is going to replace the laundry/bathhouse with a new building later this month. This is supposed to be a two washer/dryer, 5 private bath/shower/toilet room cottage. When it will be installed is another matter. Amenities during the season are probably great, the off season is another story. The big draw here in the off season is the fishing, however the on site store has absolutely no fishing gear. No WIFI and they discourage the use of the land line as it ties up their phone line. The "Dock House" could be a nice restaurant if it was ever open. This could be done on weekends when the place has a lot of visitors, but I am told it is even closed in August. The campsites are well spaced and they do have quite a few overflow that are available at decent prices. This is mainly a National Guard Training base with a C/G, Cottages and Trailers for recreational use. The local area is probably jumping during the summer, but in the off season is quite slow and a lot of restaurants and other businesses are not open or only open on weekends, etc. Upon leaving if you are heading south, consider taking the ferry to connect to Myrtle Beach and points south. Did this last year and us and two other RV's and tow vehicles fit easly on board, a great ferry ride. The c/g managment should lower the rates during the "off season" as this is pretty steep for the what little is available. I can see where they are "fair" during the season. As you will notice I use the phrase "the season" a lot in this review, it is really called for. Overall, a great place to kick back for a week or so, explore the local beaches, drown a few worms, and get your feet full of sand.

Location is GREAT, Great C/G between Ocean and inland water way, Cleanliness had room for improvment however very acceptable, Hospitaliy was great. Amenities is the big question. They get a 5 for the convience of a MINI-Market at the beach saving a 15 mile round trip to the exchange for little things. However their $9.95 charge for wi-fi is hard to swallow. A lot of fishing gear at the store and license available there also. Great fishing from the pier, and inland water side, did not surf fish, but heard it was decent. A fish cleaning station or table would be a BIG plus. Facilities are pretty well maitained during the week, but the weekends are a digrace. Overall value is good as the current rate is higher than I feel it should be, but very competitive, and decent. Overall, a great escape for a week or two to get in some serious R&R. Will return again. They should consider lowering their rates in the off season, they do extend the in and out time from two weeks to 5 months. Cell phone and air card coverage was poor to non-existant half the time. Base has a large commissary and exchange, and the biggest downfall is that it is so far to go anywhere.

This is a wonderful campground at a decent price. Nice pull thru's if you can got one. Decent spacing between rigs, and plenty of room around the rig where you don't feel like you are in your neighbors space. 50 and 30 Amps at our box, but no 20 Amp, Good water pressure and the sewer might be a LONG run if you pull to the front of the space. This campground is NOT on the base, but you still feel pretty secure as to the location. Great fishing and hiking. No WI-FI or internet access, however Verizon phone and "Air Card" had Broadband and four bars. Outdoor rec operates the "boathouse" where you check in. There is plenty to do to keep you busy. Local shopping is within 5 miles. WalMart and oher stores.

This is a true "Fam Camp", in the sense that the emphasis is on the "Family and Camp". A great place to kick back and relax. Nature trails to hike, deer roaming the camp, campfires, etc. If you are looking for an RV Resort, keep on going. If you want an isolated area, this is it. Still close to Commissary and Exchange, bank and dining. Four bars for my Verizon Phone and Verizon "Air Card". Dial up in office, no WI-FI in the park. Nice laundry area overall a great experience.

Made reservation via email as it was difficult to get hold of the host via phone. Be sure to use the Truck Gate at I-15, Exit 338. Directions on this web site are great. You can leave using the gate by the FamCamp. Security says to use the "inside" lane when leaving as it is wider. The pull thru sites work out great if you are able to get one. No WI-FI in the park but my Verizon "air card" was all bars and broadband was available. Arrived early and was able to meet the host. Lowest marks for Hospitality. Even though he was curtious, the experience left a void. No effort to explain anything as to rules and regs. There was a combo lock on the Mens room, he didn't give us the combo. The Ladies room lock and door knob been removed and was open to all. Also I was not given the combo code to the rec room, and was not able to enter or find the host to get the combo. Laundry was open and appeared in good condition. Commissary and Exchange were busy & clean. It was apparent that the "Famcamp" was not high on the maintenance list or upkeep. With a little better supervision, and a few ammenities repaired, updated or in the case of WI-FI, added, this could become a very competive Famcamp. A full time host or contact person would be a big improvment. The other comments and pictures are good and valid.

RV Park is easy to get to and spaces are easy to pull into. All spaces are pull-thrus, 50/30/20 Amp services and Cable TV (Did not connect so don't know how many stations you get). Staff was very friendly and helpfull, however they were out of base maps, and did not have an RV Park broucher. Laundry was very clean and FREE, however you need to get the key from the office when they are open. I was told that if we get in after the office closes to see the C/G host, however there was no sign or info who or where he was. The base has a decent Commissary and Exchange to replenish your rig for the next leg of your journey. It was EXTREEMLY WINDY the day we were there and did not get a chance to meet any other campers. The Officers club has a functioning diner for evening meals but the menu is mostly burgers and sandwiches. No food at the CPO club, but the enlisted club has a couple of fast food restaurants inside. There was no clubhouse to get books, info, TV, WIFI, or other ammenities. It would be nice if the restrooms/showers and laundry rooms had access without having to get a key from MWR. A punch code would workout great. I gave it top marks for Cleanlines/Hospitality and Value. Lower marks for Amenities because no WIFI or Clubhouse, Overall Experience was very pleasant. This is a good spot for a couple of days to get caught up on your laundry, shopping, and a decent rest.
