While we haven't had much experience up to now on military campgrounds, we were very pleased with our experience at Eagle Hammock on Kings Bay Submarine Base. Compared to many commercial campgrounds we have stayed at, I would rate this campground higher than 5 stars if that were possible. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The facilities were great. Everything was well kept up. At $18.00/night, you can't beat it for value. My wife was very pleased with the FREE (yes free) laundry facilities. Because they have 5 washers and 5 dryers, she was able to get in and out of the laundry in minimal time. The area surrounding Kings Bay is well worth the visit. You are just a short drive to many beaches. Near-by Cumberland Island National Seashore is a real national treasure. The island is beautiful and the rangers are very knowledgeable of the history an ecology of the island. Also near-by is Okeefenokee Swamp. Even after the severe fires of 2007, and the recently ended long drought in Georgia, the swamp is an amazing place to visit. We were even greeted by a Great Horned Owl while exploring the swamp. Being retired Navy, I am pleased to see that this park receives such great reviews. Seems like the Navy could teach the other services how to run a great park. We will certainly be returning to this RV Park for another visit in the near future.
