We stayed at one of the full hook-up sites for 30 days and then moved to one of the electric/water only sites for the remaining 11 days we were there. Camp Pendleton is a huge base and Lake O'neill is somewhat isolated from the rest of the base. There are no shopping facilities close by, but you can drive to the exchange and commissary for any needs. I was told by the host that there was a laundromat on rattlesnake road, but I never did find it so we ended up doing our laundry off base. The showers were cleaned every day, but the condition of the floors and the restrooms was obviously not the best. The number of showers was limited and on at least two occasions we had to wait in line. The cost of Lake O'Neill is the same as Admiral Baker in San Diego, but for what you get it is a little out of line. There is golf at the Marine Memorial golf course for those who golf, but while I was there they announced that the club house would be shutting down due to lack of business. The course itself wasn't in the best shape due to the fires they had last fall. Several of the greens were in the process of being replaced due to fire damage. Overall our stay wasn't that bad, and we will probably go back only because of the time restrictions at Admiral Baker and the fact that Admiral Baker stays full most of the time.

I'm not sure why there have been any negative comments about this camp, because it is without a doubt the best experience we have had so far at any camp. The host provided us with more info than anyone could possibly use and the facilities were extremely well maintained. I had no problem getting in or out and there was more than enough room between me and my neighbors. We will definitely stay here again whenever we are in the area.

We stayed here the day after Thanksgiving and the park was full so we were in the overflow. The overflow was not very good and there were several other units there with us. The host said that they were planning to expand the park, but it didn't make the stay any less painful. The overflow lot wasn't level and was rocky. For the $5 we could have stayed at a WalMart for free and had as many benefits as we had here. The rest of the park looked as though it was well maintained, but because we were only there one night we didn't have the opportunity to experience any of it.

This was our first experience as RV'ers at a military park. The host was very nice and escorted us to our spot. We didn't have a reservation and did not call ahead, but we were treated like old friends. The facilities were very clean and the showers had plenty of hot water. The only thing that was a problem was the detour on I-110 getting into the park. There should be some warning about the construction on US-90 and the fact that west bound traffic from I-10 can't go west on US 90 to get to the camp. We had to do a little creative navigating to get around the detour and fortunately we were able to turn around before we got into a bad situation. Despite this minor irritation, we would highly recommend this campground and will stay there again.
