New washers and dryers are being installed this week, so the laundry is closed. Never could login to wifi. Would be nice to have handicapped shower (with seat) available. Nice facility and very friendly staff. Crowds should start showing in the next couple of weeks. Potluck Thanksgiving meal is being planned.

Best military campground yet. Night host was personable and helpful--offered the $2.00 discount if I had the proper documentation (I did). Used the shower facilities and they were extremely clean. This was the only night of my trip that I had to pay and it was well worth it. I will certainly return in the future.

Stayed just one night. Didn't use the laundry so I can't comment. Hard pressed to find a bunch of trees out there, so my site was basically a concrete pad with dirt, which turned to mud once wet. The dog run was great, but there were no bags, fortunately I had my own. Shower facility needs updating as there was only one female shower; however, it was clean. Great stop over on way out West and having the commissary right there.
Attempted 22 Aug 10
I attempted to stay here 22 Aug 10, but they were full. Had a question in regard to overflow camping sites. Host ran out and using his strong retired military manner said to stop and that he wanted to talk to me. He then insisted that I continue to backup and pull over as I was in the way of traffic (there wasn't any coming and I just had a one second question for him) and, of course, he was of no assistance and I wasn't going to chance hitting the trees on my right. Maybe it being close to the end of the season he was ready to move on (needs to in my opinion). He was totally out of line. If there had been a place and my dog peed on a blade of his grass he probably would have demanded a G.I. party. Hey, I went to Pilot and got a free place and respect.

Great facility--the bathrooms/showers are fantastic. Lots of area to walk a dog and the doggies bags are a nice touch. I would only change some things. The new sites do not have any covers and, thus, if outside you are in the blazing sun. Hopefully, the aforementioned is in the works. Place was full. Had to call back the second time in order to get Rick (out working on property) before he closed for the night. Didn't get a chance to meet him, maybe next time. Sounds like they need to get him some help, especially on the weekends--shouldn't be closed. Directions mentioned the FamCamp being on the left; however, if you come in the Bell St gate, it is on the right. Could have better signage on base. Glad I was able to get in since I only called 30 miles out--first big RV trip, so I wasn't sure if I could make it and, thus, did not make a reservation. Now I know that this will be a future destination.
Mother's Day May 2009
Stayed Mother's Day 2009 and left following Tuesday. Gave amenities/facilities a lesser score because the beach area was closed; however, this was not their fault--serious drought. Bathhouse (female) was very clean--only change I would make would be to make shower head adjustable. If you want to hook-up to WiFi, there is no guest password, can either hit enter or type in guest--staff did not know this info. Very quiet, which is what I needed and the price was right since I had National Park Pass.

Just a FYI for all travelers. They are building a new bridge out to the site--this one is via Salado Creek and Main Post. Thankfully, the Air Force is coming to Ft Sam with a multi million dollar building and, thus, that is why we get the bridge.
