Very nice beach. Great for boogie boarding and Surfing. The Life Guards are there doing their jobs making sure swimmer and and boarders stay on there side and surfers stay on there side. The Beach and Marina have activities for the young ones. My older daughter went to Surf Camp and younger one went to Sailing School for a week. Both classes impressed us and the girls had a great time. Now for the negative. The Restrooms are horrible. I feel sorry for those who have to use them. The rules are posted at each camp site. 1 RV and 1 tent or 2 tents if no RV. 8 person max per site. 2 Vehicle limit. These rules are not enforced. Sites were crowded with multiple tents and vehicle and over the 8 person max. So much that they even protruded in to the streets making it hard for two vehicle to pass. I had heard that nothing was enforced prior to coming and now I have seen it first hand. I don't plan on camping there again. But I will visit the beach for a day and use the nasty restrooms. Fortunately, I'm a man and don't have to get too personal with them. I just pray I don''t have to go #2. :)

Took my family to this facility (pictured) and stayed in the same cabin pictured on top. There's only one cabin with a deck, the rest are on a flat surface. All the cabins are A-frame with a bedroom, kitchen, dining table, family room and loft on top. For those of you who don't like bugs, remember your in the forest and your going to see a lot of strange creatures in the cabin. They're small and they manage to get in. There is no cleaning service so the cabins are only as clean as the last occupants leave them. The grounds still has all the amenities outside, tennis, horseshoes, volleyball, playground for kids and hiking trail (minus the bear, at least on this trip). Inside the rec room there is a pool table and lot's of games and movies you can check out for free. It is quiet and spacious not far from the lake. I definitely enjoyed my stay, next time I'll bring my RV. The RV site are very nice and maintained, with water and electric hook-ups. The dump station is near the restrooms. I must say the restrooms were the cleanest I've ever seen. The host are active duty Marines who are stationed there for 6 months at a time. The two there were very helpful. The office is open until 2200 hours. Check-in is 1400hrs and check-out is between 0900-1100 hrs.

Del Mar is one big sandy beach. It is known for it's cottages more than it's RV campsite. The cottages are new and are right on the beach, that means sand every where. The RV campsite is also on the beach. It is one big flat sandy RV parking lot, The first 3 rolls have full hook-up and a fire ring, the 4th roll has no fire rings. I think because it right behind the reservation office. The beach itself is outstanding. Fine sand and no rocks, definitely a kids zone. During the summer months when school is out the beach is packed even on the weekdays (too crowed for me) and all the front roll RV sites are taken. These are the only ones with a view of the ocean. I've read some bad things about the people at the reservations desk, but my experience was pleasant and the gentleman who help me was nice.

This time stayed in one of the cottages. It was very nice. Check-in is at 1500, check-out at 1000, which doesn't give you much fun time in the mornings since you have to clean up and mop. The cottages are neat and clean, at least the one I was in. When you get your cottage assigned you get a check list and a walk through with an employee. Nothing much has changed since my last update. Still a beautiful beach. the restrooms clean and the MP's patrol quite often. There are a lot more rocks on the shore from the last time I was there.90% of the shore has rocks on it. Come here to relax not to boogie board. Very hard to walk on the rocks. Del Mar is the place to go for good sand and boogie boarding.

Nice Beach. Friendly people. Commissary near by. I stayed near the beach without full hook-up. Relaxed while watching and listening to the waves. Had a fire pit in the front. not too much noise at night. Had a group of people try to hi-jack my fire pit when I wasn't using it. Asked them to leave and they did.....to a vacant one next to us. This was about 10:30 at night. They where getting kind of loud then all of a sudden it got quite. It was 11:00 pm and the MP's where escorting them out, that I liked. The beach is patrolled regularly. The water is ok. Some of the shoreline has rocks with get in the way of boogeyboarding. bathrooms are clean, those who stay overnight get a code to the larger restroom.

I frequent Lake O'Neill occasionally and have to say the lake and the scenery is beautiful. There are a lot of things to do (fishing, boating, hiking, horseback riding etc.) It was a little crowded this last time but still not bad. To piggyback on other reviews the restroom does need a little work, but it is well maintained. It's mostly used by those who are camping in tents so it adds to the joy of "roughing it". The Camp Ground is consistently services. I've noticed the ground keepers driving around checking and changing the trash bags in the trash cans. Most of the staff are friendly and very helpful except one young lady who is fairly new named Shalonda who works at the registration desk. She appears very arrogant and talks to you without making eye contact like she has better things to do. The first time I met her I thought she was having a bad day. But having made several reservations since then I believe that's just her attitude. Besides that I do recommend Lake O'Neill. One more thing! watch out for the mosquitoes.
