J.C. left this review using the Directory software: - Nice, clean park. I felt that $20 per night was a good rate, expecially given the proximity of New Orleans. There is a free ferry as was mentioned. It is about a 25 minute drive from the base. Back gate has restricted AM and PM hours. We followed route directions from directory, is one small tunnel (probably 13-14 feet headroom. Route 23 is OK, just slow and congested. We are a 43 foot motorhome with tow.

J.B. left this review using the Directory software: - We submitted our reservation a year in advance, but were number 21 on the WAITING LIST when we arrived. After 12 days we reached number and were assigned to a site that had been vacant for at least 5 days. To assign us to that site on the computer they had to remove 2 other names. Office is staffed with volunteers, some good some lousy. There are 3 WiFi locations, each with a limited number of IP addresses, so service is dependent on how many others are on line. Virgin Mobile MiFi works, but is slow. Cell reception goes in and out, probably due to radar interference. If you want a confirmed reservation, you MUST NOT arrive in Dec, Jan or Feb.

D.W. left this review using the Directory software: - We only stayed two nights on our way to south FL, nice park, roomy sites with trees. We did not have a full service site, lacked sewer but for just two nights that was ok. Some homesteaders but new regulation states that any camper on a site for 60 days must rotate to a different site, so, hopefully that may open some full service sites.

U.U. left this review using the Directory software: - pleasant campground situated next to creek. Railroad tracks just to north of campground -heard a train once. Close to base facilities (BX, Commissary, etc.). We have stayed here multiple times over the past 8 years. Was full only once when we stopped here during the Cheyenne Frontier Days (last weekend in July) in 2011.

C.H. left this review using the Directory software: - Arrived mid-afternoon for a one-night stay on our way south. Checking in at the Game Check office was easy - friendly clerks. Although assigned a site number to keep the computer happy, I was told to pick any site we liked. We were impressed with the Community Building with the laundry and showers - heated, clean, nice hot showers (although it took a few minutes for the water to get up to temperature). My only issue was that the electrical boxes do not have breakers you can turn off before hooking/unhooking your cable - I never like hooking up "hot". All in all, a great deal for the $13 price (with Golden Age pass). We'll definitely be back. Ted H.

J.M. left this review using the Directory software: - So during our stay this December, the weeds were all mowed back, the sites were clean and neat; I saw the camp host out raking leaves and helping a couple of RV-ers with water leaks from their rigs; several times a day staff member went through the site picking up the trash; the manager visits the campground every morning personally to check on everything, and she was overseeing a broken dryer in the laundry that was immediately being repaired. Life was good there - very good actually. Have to admit that the sites are not level, I used 4 inches of boards to get my rig level and I saw a 5th wheel struggling for 10 minutes to get into a site without hitting any posts, shrubs or the neighbors. But we got outstanding local information from the manager on attractions, local seafood outlets, restaurants, prime rib dinners on base, driving directions on getting into the Navy Postgraduate school nearby. etc. At $30/night it seems high for Famcamps but not in comparison to the other campgrounds in the area. Very nice place. We will be back.

D.C. left this review using the Directory software: - Had no problem finding the CG, got there fri. afternoon. No problems signing in and did not make a reservation. Campsites are quite close together, I have a large dog that barks very loud at strangers. CG has lots of wildlfe, proghorn especialy. I could not get the internet to work, and the office gal is gone all weekend. Lots of sights to see in the area, on base the old housing and cemetery are a must see. Bath house was clean, we will come back.

D.C. left this review using the Directory software: - Donna, the FamCamp Manager, was really friendly and helpful. Her directions to the BX and Commissary were perfect! Think the FamCamp office had more amenities than any other I've ever seen. The BX gas station and Shopettte just down the street were very convienent!

B.W. left this review using the Directory software: - Arrived Friday after noon and went through the security at the Clark Road Commercial Gate. Also through out the base a ID was required. No problem as we have them. Its good to see them checking as I don't have anything to hide.Only site left was in the older part and boy its small. Marcus was the one who checked us in and I ask him if a site in the newer section came open if I could get one. Next day He call me and offered me one, I took it and moved. Spacious and clean, We have enjoyed our stay. Its our second trip here and now both times stayed in newer section. Commissary and PX were both visited. Diesel is available on base at one of the convenient stores. Note Diesel is also available at the Harker Heights WalMart store which is east on 190, just east of Killeen about a mile toward Temple TX. Price is much Cheaper. Note as usual you have to be carefully because entrance and exits are not to large.

G.G. left this review using the Directory software: - We will be stopping at Ft Sam again on our way to our Winter home in Mission. We have spent MANY nights/months there over the past 10 years and have never had anything but a great experience. The staff and hosts always go beyond your expectations to make your stop enjoyable. The only draw back is the over all condition of the streets/roads on the base proper. I have never attempted to traverse them with my unit. By coming in the back gate and dropping the unit at the site I have never had a problem. We must understand the priorities. As a retired E-7 (USAF) I prefer to build housing for the kids who are our future rather than trim a tree for a million dollar motor home!. Old Sarge 38

C.W. left this review using the Directory software: - This is a well kept secret in the Atlanta area. Great facility and super nice staff. Campground is wooded with easy access to sites. Saw at least one pull thru site. Facility is right on Lake Allatoona. Lovely beach.

P.B. left this review using the Directory software: - Very nice campground. It appears that some work is still being done to the park, but the park is very nice now.

C.S. left this review using the Directory software: - New campground, very nice, Kenny, the campground manager was very helpful. I have visited many famcamps, this is one of the best. Management is the best.

L.B. left this review using the Directory software: - Previous reviews say it all. An unused Gem. The RV park is close to the exchange and commissary and the base has a lot of the amenities of a full size installation. And it's all new. You're a distance from downtown NO, but check with Kenny (all that is written is true) and he'll direct you to the ferry. Parking is $5 weekdays, $10 weekends and the ride is free. You exit downtown, approx 4 blocks from Bourbon St. WiFi was up, but iffy. Problem has been identified (additional antenna required) and correction is in the works.
