As a first-time user, I found the Travis Fam Camp RV Park to be one of the best-kept secrets/values around for RVers. If the 60th Services Squadron were to give it some additional support, there would be more 5-star reviews. Location is right off of the Main Gate and within easy walking distance of AAFES facilities (BX, Food Court, Commissary, Banks), including a Car/RV Wash just outside the grounds. Check-in was painless and worry-free as a "first-come, first-serve" basis (30 day advance registrations are accepted), with helpful guides and brochures of local tourist areas readily available. The "rules of the park" (Travis Fam Camp Guidelines) are clearly spelled out -- although the tri-fold is dated and in need of reprinting, since many "pen & ink" corrections have been made throughout the brochure. Facilities are adequate (Laundry/Restrooms open 24hrs) for the number of available spaces served -- 72 RV spots, divided between Full Hook-up, No Pets and Full Hook-up, Pets allowed in spaces 8-17 and 25-48 with TV cable available. There are also four dry camp and four tent camping spots available. However, in this day and age of the internet, to not offer basic WiFi service within the park grounds is a major drawback for tech-savy RVers. For those who need to get their daily "fix" of e-mail or web-surfing, you'll be well-advised to have 3G or 4G service. Otherwise, it's necessary to walk to the local Starbucks coffee outlet in the BX with your laptop or netbook. The grounds themselves, while well maintained, could use additional planting of shade trees and low shrubbery in outlying spaces 25-48. This would provide for some privacy between RVers and serve as a wind break for the well-known Delta Breeze. Based on first impressions, this serves as a very good baseline to judge all others against. I'm anxious to compare this place to the Fam Camp at the Coast Guard Station in Petaluma, as well as the Fam Camps (three available) at Vandenberg AFB.

Tony is not so bad - he just has no people skills at all. Zip-point-zilch, nada, zero! I arrived on a Sunday to a closed office. I did not see any signs posted on where to park. In addition, the street into the park was blocked due to underground pipe construction. I managed to start up a street when Mr. Tony came running out and screaming like a banshee asking me if I read the sign at the office. I told him I did not see a sign. He basically called me a liar when I told him that there was not a sign, or intimated that I was illiterate. After getting me parked in a spot, I went to the office to pay up. Tony was there. I asked him to point out the sign. He mumbled that someone must have taken down the sign. However, that being said, the park is very nice, restrooms and laundry areas are nearly spotless. Tony works hard to keep the park looking great. He trims trees, edges the grass and picks up trash. This is the best park for the money spent.

This is one of the nicest military campgrounds - I would place it in the top 10. The park is well maintained, lots of neatly mowed green grass, paved roads, packed gravel sites. Large Commissary and Exchange nearby. All the amenities that you expect at a large military base. Dining facility is open to retirees. I observed all the rules so I didn't have any problem with Tony.

We arrived on a Sunday so the office was closed. We called the day before and were given a list of potential sites. When we paid Monday morning, Tony went over the basic rules. Yes, there are rules; however, they were reasonable. Tony was friendly enough and informative. The park is very nice and green lawns are everywhere; quite a change from the sand and gravel we've been experiencing. The sites are nicely spaced with wide interior roads. It is about an hour + drive to San Francisco plus tolls on I-80 ($4.00); or the Golden Gate Bridge ($7.00)if you come in from the North. We parked at the north end of the GG Bridge and rode our bikes over the bridge (there is a dedicated walkway) and along the waterfront (11 miles round-trip); quite an experience. There is cable at the site, no wifi; but Verizon worked well. If we return to SF, we'll be back.

Tony met us when we arrived and helped back us into one of the tightest sites in the park. Got us in on the first try and then he helped level the trailer. We thought that we might have a problem getting a satellite signal and Tony offered to move us to another site if we did. Diesel fuel is now available at the pumps where the Firestone dealer is located. We'll be back.

This IS a Great location. I was stationed at Travis for 4 years and still love the area. I have stayed at this camp twice now and will NOT return as long as they allow Tony to run it. The first time I thought maybe he was having a bad day. Now I realize that he causes others to have bad days. He pounced on me the minute I arrived, waving his arms and yelling like a lunatic. If you love being micro-managed as if you were living in base housing, you will love it here. Also, if you are traveling with dogs, good luck here. You are expected to transport your animal to the "approved dog area" (a weed infested patch of dirt) without touching Tony's prized golf course quality grass. After staying there you will know why the park isn't full when it's in a prime location. Please keep us posted on when he leaves, I'll be the first to make reservations.

We stayed here in our motor home. This park is very nice. The manager has been very nice and is knowledgeable of the base services. We would recommend this park to anyone who is looking for a clean, quiet, well run place to stay. The pet area is a very large field off the corner of the park. There is a RV wash bay right next door.

I guess I really don't understand the prior complaints about the manager. Yes there are rules, they are enforced, and to my way of thinking they are reasonable. It is hard to understand how some folks managed 20+ years in the military without having to accept rules and regulations. You will not find trash stored outside of RVs that appear not to have moved in months. You will not find even a few drivers moving through the place at unsafe speeds. Noise is not a problem. We found the manager to be helpful and responsive to our needs. We have stayed at dozens of military RV parks and The Travis facility is among the nicest. The sites are level and well designed. Restrooms and laundry facilities are clean. The facility is well landscaped and maintenance appears to be ongoing and a priority for MWR. It has been our experience that in the absence of well thought out and enforced rules, military RV parks quickly turn into dumps. This one is no dump!!

Everything was excellent here except for one thing, Tony! I read the reviews prior to going and just couldn't believe anyone could be as bad as others described Tony to be, I found out quickly, they were being kind. Who wants to start a trip by having to deal with someone as egotistical as this guy? He harped on the grass so much I started wondering if we were even allowed to walk on it. He goes with you to "assist" you in parking, he treats you like you're some idiot that has never backed a trailer into a camping spot. He doesn't have a clue as to how to give directions to someone backing a trailer, his "guidance" is always late. He is overly concerned about running a tire over the grass but observation revealed the grass overgrew the road by 8-12" throughout the campground. My wife is a fourth grade teacher and has at least twice the amount of patience as myself but Tony had her to the boiling point as well. We greatly enjoyed the area and the campground as well, but I will not be back as long as Tony is there, he has "ZERO" people skills.

Our stay at the Travis Famcamp this time was great. When we called to check on availability, Tony told us to see John to help us back into our site. John’s directions were very helpful! There are a lot of rumors going around that Tony will be leaving soon but right now nothing has been finalized. Tony was a perfect gentleman while we were there and even stopped by our site to say hello and welcome us back. As always, the park is beautiful and very well maintained. The bathrooms, laundry and grounds were spotless. They even have bags of ice already made and waiting for you. The base has tightened up on security since the Ft. Hood shooting so you may experience delays getting on the base. All-in-all our time there was super.

R.S. left this review using the Directory software: Excellent location. The park is very clean and well maintained. The BX and mini-mall are within easy walking distance. In addition the park is very easy to find when you first arrive. It's practically at the entrance gate. The rules are indeed quite strict. The camp manager, Tony, evidently has a reputation. We found him to be quite strict and courteous but business-like. If he pulls up to your site in his electric cart, it isn't to discuss the weather, etc., it means your breaking one of the rules.

Great experience, stayed three months due to family illness, great staff friendly and helpful. Rules are posted and enforced. If you are ex military and not use to following rules, it wasn't in our military. Plan on coming back in near future. If you like a well run and clean campground this is the place.

D.N.left this review using the Directory sofware: This FamCamp would be a solid 5 if Tony would learn some people skills. It seems that he has a lot of rules for the campground which is good in my opinion. However, he does not follow his own rules. The hours listed on the door don't seem to mean anything. I was there on three separate occasions and had to wait up to thirty minutes for somebody to show up. And that is after they take a four hour lunch break. I think we would all love that job. The old car sitting in front of the office?? I bet that if a guest did that Tony would invent a rule. Also Tony's idea of telling you how to drive your vehicle to park it is more then irritating, just let me know where you want the rig and I will put it there. Other then Tony this is a beautiful park and the maintenance crew does an outstanding job. I would return and smile thru the lectures.

Every RV Park has rules and Travis AFB enforces them. Professional Management and a beautiful FAMCAMP. This is not a place for those of you that have no respect for other people or property. If you like a peaceful and well managed, clean RV Park this is the place. Close to San Francisco and NAPA Wine Country. Easy to find off I-80. I will return. Harvey Stolp

This is our third visit to Travis and it hasn’t changed much since our last stay. Since we arrived on a Sunday the office wasn’t open but there was a sign in the window telling us our site number. After parking a few minutes “on the centerline” we proceeded to our parking spot which was in the “new” section. We backed the 5-er into the spot and in doing so I rolled the trailer over a very small portion of grass. While I was unhooking Tony came over and came unglued that I would break the law in such a blatant fashion. Then he started lecturing me (with a lot of animation) on how to park my trailer. He also said he was going to come back the next day and “access the damage”, which he never did because the next day there was no marks on his grass. He also made sure that I knew that at Travis you may not park yourself and that I should have went to his home and asked for assistance. At this point I finally told him that if he had wanted to help park us that he should have the office open 24/7 or make the sign on the office window reflect his desires. Of course, I apologized for breaking the law and swore that I would never do it again. There are a lot of rules here, both official written ones (we never got a copy of them) and then there are “Tony’s laws” which are not written down anywhere that I could find. I learned about his unwritten rules during the course of our stay as each day Tony came by our trailer and told me a new one. Folks, I don’t mind some rules as they help keep the park in good shape and orderly. But I also believe that there has to be some flexibility in those rules. Tony hasn’t learned to bend a little and be a little more personable in his dealings with people. If I acted like he did when dealing with guests while hosting in Oregon State Parks I would have been asked to leave and would not be asked back. Sprinklers in our area came on mid morning everyday so if you don’t want hard water on your vehicles, plan accordingly. Very clean restrooms and laundry facilities. Amenities on the base are outstanding. Go back…????

Great sites, well maintained and Jack Rabbits!! It is nice to see that rules are well thought out and fairly enforced. If we all could realize that famcamps are a privilege not a right, and they are military, then perhaps all of them could be as well run as this. No favorites just equitable treatment within the guidelines. Base facilities very convenient, and nice to but diesel on post.

Excellent FamCamp...well managed and kept and the staff were friendly and courteous. (No Nazi experiences here!!!) No hassle after hour check-in. Small paperwork to fill out and money must be submitted. Met with the staff the next morning and finalized our checked in. We were provided maps and layout of useful businesses in/around Fairfield. Even easier when we extended an additional two days. This camp is ideally located next to the BX (whose staff weren't as friendly), fast food, auto wash, and fuel definitely made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. It seems like the whole base was RV/camper friendly. I noticed an RV lemon lot with several motorhomes/trailers for sale. Unusual compared to bases where I come from in Colorado. The trailer lots were evenly spaced with sizeable yard space providing ample room for children and pets to roam. Ensure your slideout does not infringe on your neighbor's space. The jack rabbits added a natural setting despite the close proximity of the buildings. My kids were all excited when they first saw them. The large field adjacent to the FamCamp allowed additional room to play for my four children. We also used the laundry facilities which were in great condition...just be ready to have your quarters ahead of time as there are no change machines. No inconvenience for us as we've amassed a lot of loose change during our trip. The only inconvenience we found was the lack of wi-fi at the camp. I would log on during my daily morning coffee routine at Starbuck's (close to the mini-mall next to the BX) and research the weather and plan for our follow-on trips. The camp staff did provide ideal wi-fi spots around the base for "tech-ies" to log on. Other than that, the friendly staff alone would entice me to return to this wonderful place.
