This year the City Council in Hollister decided to bring back the annual ralley for the 4th of July weekend. The ralley this year will be the 5th and 6th. Some of my family members, friends and I will be staying in Gilroy. This will be my first year in attendance, so let's see how this goes.
I also have a BMW 1200GS and a Ducati 1100S. They both are much better road bikes but the WR250 allows me to get into the remote spots. I can still do 70 on the highway so I can get from trail head to trail head. If any of you will be in the Mesa area around Christmas let me know.
2 years ago I took the Buell to Mexico. I used Mountain Home and Nellis AFB's to camp at both ways.
I have ridden RFTW twice. I recommend the Southern Route, the people are much friendlier and laid back, I started on the Central, 2008 and left the gestapo attitude and went to the Southern. I have since talked to friends on the Central that the gestapo attitude and participants have been purged, but still recomment the Southern Route.
For what it's worth. RFTW is great experience wouldn't miss it for any amount---I only wish my health would allow me to continue the RUN, I try to see them off each year, but cannot sustain the rigors of the everyday RUN, alas.
Camping is grueling experience-did it 2008 all the way. 2009 roomed with a advance team veteran, would not do any different----the room is much better than the ground. Also the 7th platoon central and southern (trailers, trikes, sidears, etc.) are always the last to arrive everwhere, and the last in line for gas, food, and restrooms---keep that in mind, when you decide to pull your trailer.
If you can get the tailgunner job in 7th platoon, it would be a boon for you, then you get to the front of the gas line upon arrival at gas stops. Not much of a perk when you figure you are arriving with NO-ONE behind you. I was a tail-gunner in 09, best job on the run---loved it.

Karen & I are in 30' class A and drag a 20' enclosed trailer as I'm on an Ultra and she's riding a Can-Am Spyder and its over 5' wide so there is no side by side action. We have found more and more camps are allowing us to leave the trailer on our site if there is NO car regestered too. We are enroute back to Michigan after snow-birding in Yuma for the 2nd year. We run the road a little more than 55' total and it still works for us and the bikes are clean and secure.
Have to agree with you about summertime riding, here in Kentucky the heat was much the same, high 90s with 80% humidity most of the summer months, very uncomfortable to ride. The wife and I sort of made up for it later in the Fall, loaded down the Gold Wing and rode it to the Keys and back in November. Great trip. In October we went on a 5 day ride through the Blue Ridge Parkway, absolutely beautiful. We are now planning a trip up the East coast, using an enclosed cargo trailer to carry the bike and "stuff" and using the trailer as a base camper for overnight stays. Have it somewhat fixed up with a/c, refer, porta-john, sleeping bags, etc...Love this cooler weather biking/camping.
The trip was great. Most guys my age are on cruisers but I guess I never grew up. I'm hoping on making Death Valley and Alaska this year.
My wife and I ride two Harleys. Me, an Ultra-Classic, and she has an Ultra-Classic with Voyager Trike conversion. We do a lot of touring from Montgomery, TX. We bought a 24' Jayco ToyHauler last year and it has created a new dimension in motorcycle touring. Instead of riding point-to-point, we can now go to an area for several days or more, do day rides, and enjoy our own cooking and beds without the expense of hotels and restaurants. Last year we did a month long trip to the Colorado Rockies. This year we plan a month+ trip to Lake Powell, the West Coast, and back through Colorado. The ToyHauler is fully self-contained and has been great. Easy to tow, set up and take down. I am an avid Garmin GPS user and have lots of ride routes that span from Texas to Nova Scotia, Glacier NP, Yellowstone, the Ozarks, and Colorado. I'd be happy to share route information with anyone interested and who has Garmin mapping programs. Pete and Paula

Martin ,
I tried to register with trike talk today, but I didn't receive the auto-response email needed to finish registering. Nana sent me a message that I can't reply to telling her I didn't get the email. Is there a way that you can let her know this and have her send another auto-response email so I can finish registering?

I am making preparations for attending Mardi Gras in the Big Easy.
From there I will be headed to Datona for Bike Week. No timetable
to follow and lots of time for adventurous detours and side stops
to visit friends and sample cuisine. Whole adventure and return to
CA will take about 8 weeks or so. By then it should get warm again.
Woof.

Martin ,
I would say that I feel our pain with the weather....but I'd be a liar. The San Diego area stays pretty nice year 'round. I did have to put some metal pieces I was using paint stripper on out in the direct sun to get them warm enough to make the stripper activate better.
I am looking forward to seeing your rig though. My dad tinkered quite a bit with different trailers so I've always had an interest in building/rebuilding/remodeling.

Martin, I've got the before pics, but a littlw lax in the inprogress ones. I'll get some taken and try to post them. Right now its 20 degrees here in Missouri, so I've not done too much in the last week. About the only thing left is to put the laminate on the countertop and install a few more tiedowns. The laminate will have to wait for a warm spell
