Ronny and Lynda Mitchell replied to the topic Re: Vechicle Registration in the forums.Ft. Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia still require DOD stickers. It's easy to get one there but you MUST enter through the Montgomery gate. They do 100% ID check also. Sure wish all the bases would drop the stickers so we don't have to travel around and find a base that will issue them.
The Marine Recruit Training base doesn't require the DOD stickers. Great place to visit for Beaufort,SC.
Kings Bay didn't require a sticker when I went there. Security was very pleasant and welcoming.

Ronny and Lynda Mitchell replied to the topic Re: Onslow beach in the forums.Actually, next to the dumpster is not exactly right on top of it. There is plenty of room between that space for RV to turn around. That space is also ideal for watching boat traffic on the ICW. WiFi is FREE and EXCELLENT. Cable TV has plenty of channels. Enjoy your stay. You won't be disappointed.

Ronny and Lynda Mitchell replied to the topic Re: Homesteading in the forums. If Homesteading is staying in a military recreational site for more than 1 year then Charleston AFB beats that. They opened a big new section and the old very shaded portion is reserved for rv'ers who stay 30days to 2 YEARS! Can you believe this, 2 YEARS. I was also told that the 2 Years thing was basically for when reservists arrive. I personally think that anything over 6 months should not be allowed. But, to RESERVE the most shaded spots for people who decide to stay 30 days to 2 YEARS should be banned. I agree that not everyone wnats to be surrounded by trees because of SAT TV problems or whatever but in the middle of the summer months to not be able to utilize a well shaded area even if empty because it is reserved for extended stay personnel is an outrage. I have been to various campgrounds and seen where homesteaders and such suck up the nice spots and the rest of us that pass through have to stay out in the open mostly. In my opinion no spot should be reserved for any extended stay and any stay over 3 months should be banned. These facilities should not be utilized as a place to live out a particular season.

Ronny and Lynda Mitchell replied to the topic Re: Reservations Shady Oaks Campground-Charleston AFB in the forums. We arrived early April and almost had to go to overflow. Fortunately a site opened within 40 minutes and we moved to it. Since then the park has slowly emptied and many sites are open. A few RVs have come and gone but I guess right at Early April was a bad time to get here with so many RV'ers heading back North all at once. We have been coming here for years, even before the improvements and never been turned away. The 2 camp hosts here are extremely friendly/helpful. WiFi is excelent. Facilities on base are convienant. My only problem with this facility is that they have spaces reserved for 30 days to 2 YEARS! These reserved spots are also the very shady spots which would be very nice to those traveling in mid-summer. I also personally believe that staying at a recreational site for 2 years is not recreating but using it as housing. Other than that this facility is ABSOLUTELY excellent.

Ronny and Lynda Mitchell created a new topic Beaufort,SC Parris Island RV Park in the forums.Very nice park! Wake up early and you can catch a Marine company doing their morning run before breakfast. The Marine Exchange is fairly nice. Facilities are neat and clean. Marine Exchange has a movie CD dispenser since there is no cable TV. Easy direct drive into Historic Beaufort. I would stay here again.

Ronny and Lynda Mitchell created a new topic Savannah,Ga Lotts Island Army Airfield in the forums.Visted in mid July 2011 for 10 days. Small quiet RV park. Nice location for sightseeing the Savannah area and plenty of shopping malls within a short driving distance. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Cable TV was short on pleasing but they are starting to switch to a new provider. No WiFi. Early morning walks to nearby REC park/Marina is pleasant. Plenty of shade. I would stay there again.

Ronny and Lynda Mitchell replied to the topic Re: KINGS BAY GA. in the forums.Late July 2011 spent 4 days here because rumor is everyone MUST spend a day or two here sometime so we did and were not disappointed. Staff is fantastic. Campground is excellent and facilities are superior and surgically clean. Was to to watch for snakes but none showed their heads. Daily rides to Kingsland and St. Marys for sightseeing are fantastic. Commissary stocks some items that are hard to find on the outside. Weather was really HOT! Hey, its Late July. Personnel at gate are energetic and friendly. Absolutely a campground that sets the standards. Well worth stopping even if it does delay your trip.
