Martin Hill created a new topic Tent Camping in the forums. The wife and I camp in both an RV and a tent. We are on a motorcycle when tent camping. A couple of reviews seem to indicate that some locations have a problem with tent campers utilizing the shower facilities...does anyone have any personal experience with this issue? We have never stayed at a military FamCamp while tenting, so can't personally speak to this. But, think I would have a REAL issue if denied the use of bathrooms while tenting...would take SPs responding to make me evacuate, and even then, I'd probably wind up in custody. I would be, to put it mildly, Outraged.....

Martin Hill replied to the topic Re: Scenic Trips in the forums.Didn't notice any comments concerning the Blue Ridge Pkwy....450 miles from Front Royal, Va to Cherokee, NC...Not a red light and no Commercial Traffic allowed. Have done it twice on motorcycles, the most recent this past September. Numerous camping opportunities all along the Pkwy as well as eating and lodging facilities. Highest elevation is around 6100'. Any trip to the Smokies is a trip worth making.

Martin Hill replied to the topic Re: mess hall in the forums.A couple more that welcome retires:
Scott AFB, Il
Moody AFB, Ga
Warner Robins AFB, Ga
Offutt AFB, Ne
Ellsworth AFB, SD.
Have visited these in the past year and this info is relatively current.
Guess this area is about as inconsistent as the base decal policy. Whenever visiting a military dining facility I always try and express my appreciation to the Manager on duty and emphasize how much the retired community appreciate this benefit.

Martin Hill replied to the topic Re: Military Campground Sponsor in the forums.Even better, if anyone has any pertinent info concerning any particular FamCamp that is not included in the description of that campground, pass it on to Larry so the info for that campground may be updated.

Martin Hill replied to the topic Re: Texas to South Flordia in the forums. You might want to check out Ross Prairie Campground near Dunnellon, Florida...It is part of the Cross Florida Greenway area and this is primarily set up for horse campers, but has w/e and a dump with about 15 or so sights. We stayed there last year and plan on doing so again next month for a couple of days. Google it...

Martin Hill created a new topic Routes in the forums. One of our favorites it the Blue Ridge Parkway from Front Royal, Virginia to Cherokee, NC...abut 450 or so. We rode it with another couple on motorcycles in early July and took three days to complete. Could have spent several more since there is so much to see. Would love to ride it in late September or early October and catch the changing leaves.
Another terrific area is the Mt Rushmore area of SD. Needles Hwy, Custer SP, The Badlands, just to name a few beautiful areas. Neither of these areas are places I would really want to pull a large camper, but some folks do.

Martin Hill replied to the topic Re: natchez trace parkway in the forums. The DW and I completed this trip from Kentucky this past October on a motorcycle. Overall, about 1200 miles in a week or so...Outstanding weather and trip. Not something I would do on a regular basis, but a must do at least once, or twice. We had done it about 3 years ago in a camper. Enjoyed it both ways..

Martin Hill replied to the topic Re: Latest on vehicle stickers? in the forums. If arriving at Ft Knox and no decal one is requested to proceed back off Post and enter another gate that provides Customer Services and request a Visitors Pass. The guard had no idea if a policy change was coming down the pike. Inconvenient, but does encourage one to get the decal.

Martin Hill replied to the topic Re: HOP to Hawaii in the forums. Thanks, the March timeframe looks best since most kids will be in school and not be jamming up the Hop circuit too badly, as they do during the summer months.
